Rules: You may post *one (1) picture of an engine or a group of engines that are alike (for example: a collection of Space Bug Jr.s that feature each color tank). The engine must be a Cox engine, it can be stock or parts built. Cox engines using aftermarket or handmade parts and multi-cylinder engines are allowed as long as they feature Cox made crankcase(s) and cylinder(s). Although proof isn't required, engines that are built using aftermarket or handmade parts have to be able to run. A good example of a non-running homemade engine that wouldn't qualify for this contest is found HERE. Disassembled engines are allowed as long as all parts are visible and the engine is in running condition when assembled.
If you are unsure if your picture qualifies, feel free to contact the administrator with questions.
* You may post multiple "pictures" as long as they are all joined together in one picture. (This is done in image editing software before uploading)
MAIN POINTS
•One picture
•Picture shall be of one engine or engines that are alike (a Babe Bee and a Tee Dee .049 together would NOT qualify)
•Must be a Cox Engine
•Engines using aftermarket or handmade parts must feature Cox made crankcase(s) and cylinder(s)
•Engine must be able to run
Optional Caption
Along with your picture you may include a caption that describes or explains the picture. The caption should include the name and displacement of the engine. The caption has to be short as if you picture wins, it will be posted under the picture in the sidebar. If you do not include a caption, one will be thought up for you.
After 5 days, the first 10 pictures will be moved to another topic to be voted on by other members. The winner will have their engine displayed on the sidebar of the forum and forever listed on the past winners page.
Looking forward to see what you guys come up with! Good Luck!

Brad, what is your experience with the standard glow plug on a TD 09? Does it allow the same rpm as the stock COX head?
With smaller i.e. 049 engines the standard glow plug conversion robs hundreds of rpm-s because of the excess heat the standard glow plug adds to the Carnot cycle prior to the ignition...
Thank you, András.

I have the TD .09's the TD RC .09's and the Medallion .09s
Cox made special glow plugs for each. If you have a TD Glow head mount
and flip the prop to feel the difference in compression. Out of the 3 types
the TD Glow plus has the most compression feel. Best plug if you have low
nitro or need top rpm or out to do some cold weather flying. On hot days
you can use up the Medallion glow plugs and still see good performance.
Use less compression for big props of course less stress on the pin, crank,
ball socket and rod. I have gone from 4 mins to around 11 mins with a bigger
prop when run time is desired with a 1oz tank.
A .09 engine will still function quite well with the glow head plug adapter style
over the TD Head. The smaller displacement .049 can have losses, just seal the
threads with grease prior to installing the head adapter and glow plug to insure a
good seal. Make sure the adapter is seating on the head gasket. The advantage
using standard glow plugs is you have a wide heat range you can choose from and
of course some brands are better than others. If you have a large hole where the
element sits in you want to discard for a brand the has paid attention and only has
the minimum size possible to fit the element in to help increase compression.
I prefer the turbo plugs, they seal before the threads so there is no air leaks to
worry about if properly installed.

Re: *Cox Engine of The Month* Submit your pictures! -November 2016-
Thanks, Brad,
I actually have a MECOA-made TD 09 head adaptor and am just about to try that. I wanted a lasting solution because genuine 09 COX glow heads are rare to find...I have a few of them but would find the adaptor a long term solution in case the rpm is not compromised.
I also have a 09 muffler that, with an SPI TD09 I have, I would expect to lower the performance further. I will tach the engine with these options separately to find out the impact.

Brad,
are you sure the conical part of the glow plug seals if the head adaptor is drilled and tapped through all along the full length of the plug? What is the conical part of the plug sitting on for sealing if the thread is full through the head?

Thanks Mark! Picked these up at two different sales on opposite sides of the city. I assumed they were the only remains of a Cox RTF model someone received for Chirstmas or Birthday! Cox Super Cub 105 Thanks again! Rene
Whats the odds of that, as the small prop and blue spinner was used only on the CAP Super Cub 105!
lol, remember if you're gonna clean it up to original, to rotate backplate 180.

This seems very professional...too bad that Mr Valentine does not bother answering emails of Eastern European redneck bums like myself no matter if I offer business to him:lol!: .....so I will have to resort to my own make-shift kitchen-engineered solutions like in many other aspects of my hobby
