Airboats and Snow Planes

Airboats and Snow Planes
Allways was intrigued by Airboats. I tried to make a “scale” version of the Ice boats that were raced on frozen lakes a a young child. My total ignorance of aerodynamics and balance doomed them to fail miserably. Saw this picture on another forum, and thought “hey! There’s a use for some on the old fuselage’s up in the rafters!
Winter Project:
Make some of Roddies aluminum siding trim skis and a pusher prop, whla! A prop rod on skis!

I love the use of the fuselage in reverse. Very neat.

Now THAT is something I've never seen. A Cessna 152 with the tail chopped off and the wings removed. I guess it's kind of a stroke of genius. Use the engine as mounted, just put a pusher prop on and turn the seats around. I'm guessing the propane tank I see is used for an engine pre-heater. Do you have a link so I can read up on the conversion?

I was captivated by that build!
It was a great challenge to build this vehicle from pictures only without an existing drawing. I hope to run it this winter!!

Wouldn't you have loved to "be there" for that?? I don't care how cold it may have been! I'm sure that all those props were whipping up a good breeze!
Re: Airboats and Snow Planes
Be there, check. In one, check! Yep, I agree it would have been neat to be there, no matter what the weather.

Re: Airboats and Snow Planes
Here one I bought off of RC Groups a while back. It's made out of a aluminum crutch, plastic float and some strip aluminum. It had an Evo 46 on it when I bought it. Couldn't get that engine to run at all. The carb had air leaks. Removed the engine but never put a new one on. Was thinking a 40FSR or 46FX.

Wow. As simple as that one sounds, it actually looks very complicated. A lot of work and thought must have went into it. Will be neat if you get it going.

Plus, you don’t have to register it with the government! No FAA! Looks like a ton of fun to me.

Absolutely LOVE teh re-purpose of that little Cub! Great idea, and I am sure now that I will be starting to fly RC again this year with nitro planes, I may have the opportunity to pick up a crashed hull to make one like this.
