Thank you Rene!!!!!!!!! Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

Tonight I sprayed some grey-primer on the newly reworked wingtips, outdoors on the back-porch (deck)..

Tonight's photo has a very "blue hue" to it..

... which inspires me to spray some black paint judiciously.. and name the model "Blue on Black".. a song by the Kenny Wayne Sheppard band..

I want to give this model a theme.. but at the same time; keep it stealthy.. like a night-fighter/interceptor.

This airplane will be brought to the field this weekend as an exhibition-model.. for the CEF RWYB Speed-Contest.

Its Cox reed-valve engines will run right and left-hand.. with 5"D X 4"P propellers.

I read "exhibition" which probably means static. But could also mean let 'er rip Roddie...…..it's only balsa.

Good luck in either case.

Hear me out.. these spring-collars are designed to fit 1/16" (.062"/1.6mm) piano-wire.. and provide a lightweight/reliable friction-collar that will assist in a myriad of modelling needs.

I am using these with this P-38 model. The elevator-pushrod is 1/16" piano-wire. It utilizes two "L-bends" which must be retained. Using a series of flat-washers with a spring-retainer; a linkage can be made to work with reasonable precision.

These photos will show where I have used these spring-retainers in the control-linkage of this model.

The above photo-example shows a 1/16" piano-wire pushrod being retained in a Sig 1/2A Nylon bellcrank. Take a close look..

P-38 Lightning-Roddie style.. - Page 9 Dsc05340

The spring-retainer establishes a "clearance". That's basically the beauty of using it.

Here is where I use one on the elevator horn...

I'm just a novice flyer.. but I like to build precision into my flying models. It doesn't cost much...
anybody have any luck finding these?

Hi Joe! Sorry I missed this/your inquiry. My forum attendance has been sketchy these last few months. Short answer; "NO".. I haven't been able to source them.

You "can" make them from .015" music wire. Be sure to wear safety-glasses when working with music-wire. The original spring material is between .017" and .020" depending on the supplier. (Sig and Goldberg were two suppliers of these)

I had some .015" music wire in my stock.. which I "hand-wound" around the shank of a #54 drill (.055" dia.) You could try a #53 drill (.0595" dia.) but the coil won't fit as tightly around a 1/16" dia. (.062") music-wire axle-shaft.. as the purpose-made parts do.

Here's a coil of .015" dia. music-wire which I wound in excess. You'd only need 5-6 turns to make one retainer. I would suggest making one at a time.

Remember.. Clean my glasses Be sure to wear safety-glasses when working with music-wire.

Thanks Eric. The first link's seller has X4 packages containing X6 retainers each for $17 plus $3 S & H. Seeing that he has X100 packages, maybe he'd do a better deal if someone bought X10 or more. Huh...
