Those tail booms look closer together than mine. No problem as long as they're centered. Did you use a hot exacto knife to remove the Ultracote strips to glue them to the sheeting?

lol!

I guess by done I meant painted and loose mounted. They are supposed to be 1 7/8 apart and centered like you said. I usually trace around the parts and then cut away using a knife. Hot you say? Do you heat the blade?

It seems like i did. Maybe I should check my old build thread at RCG. I plan to cover the center and mount the booms on the bean today, so I'll be doing the same thing. A brand new blade should suffice.

Ron, could you comment on the overall quality of the kit? Parts fit, balsa quality, etc.?
Thanks,
Jim

Sure,

This is my 3rd Brodak kit and probably second best on quality. I liked the Baby Clown the best on fit and wood quality. The Bean was the worst

The L'il Satan was good, not great, just good. The wood was too soft for the nacelles in my opinion and the bellcrank area could have used more support seeing as it falls outside the sheeting due to an internal wing tank.

Also, the tank pickup tube and nacelle conflict and required modification to fit the fuel line. My biggest pet peeve is they laser etched the pieces with the names of the parts which shows through after painted.

The instructions were a little tough to follow as the pictures don't coincide with the writing.

Thanks Ron, I found the same problem with the instructions when I built the Stork. A little proofreading would go a long way.

Wrapped this one up today. I chose an early 60's thin walled cylinder .051 for power. It came out OK I think. I see where I could improve. Overall I think it's a neat little plane and hopefully it flies better than it looks!

I forgot to mention that I laminated the elevator in 1/64 sheet ply to ward off any breakage issues and to lessen the stress caused by the control horn being kicked off to the side. The last pic is the wall of fame. If you look close you can see Jim's Stork which will be my next project. Thanks for all the help guys!

Yeah, nice looking fleet. I love the blood red covering. Mine was lighter red than I had intended. I think it was called Rocket Red or something like that.

Did the plywood on the stabilator cause any balancing problems? You can screw lead to the engine mounting beam if you need it. That's what I did on my Satan when the lighter Tee Dee replaced the BW.

I haven't properly checked CG yet, using my fingertips though it seems to be pretty well balanced. 1/64 is pretty light ply. You can't even tell it's on there visually.
