It's probably been answered here already, but since I can't find it, here it is: Why the two teensy-weensy little slots on some late Cox engines? That's gotta suck power severely!

The slit exhaust ports were originally designed to reduce the chance that the engine could catch on fire (especially while priming with the glow head clip attached). You will also notice some engines with cylinders that have a mesh or slotted screen wrapped around them for the same reason. Some people will say that the slit cylinders reduce power, its neither true or false. It depends on the inside porting and the engine it is being used with (along with many other factors).
