Info needed before my new .010 arrives!

Info needed before my new .010 arrives!
So I finally did it! I bit the bullet, committed to an auction and it left me off on a good note. I bought an engine that had only been run to show that it starts and is operational. I am of coarse talking about my new Cox .010 Tee Dee! WOO HOO.
Now... down to business.. I searched and lurked, and I could not find the difference between the red tank and the black tank .01's. I bought a red tanked tee dee. Which is better? And why?
:study:
Cheers all!

I heard the red version was the better one, something to do with the crank construction or machine process I think. Don't quote me on that. I wouldn't turn down a black one for the right price.

Hmmmmmmm...............
My NIB TD .010 has a natural aluminum tank
I'm not at all sure what the tank color indicates. Does anyone know for sure?

Well Dave i have never seen a raw tan on a .010!
And AFAIK cox never made one.
Maybe they made an after market part?
I know that Davis had alu backplate son his C02 conversions.
Here are the differences courtesy of Martin Herpel
The engine was produced starting in 1960 until 1978 with gold anodized crankcase and propeller driver and red plastic parts. Production was sporadic, depending on sales. Since about 1989 newly manufactured aluminum parts were anodized without dying and the new plastic parts were molded in black. Also the steel spray bar was not treated with the initial black oxide finish anymore.
that is correct!
The older ones are said to have better performance and in my experience do (having owned a few of each)
This is because they were just made to a higher standard with better Quality control and more over all pride.
However the design differences are mearly cosmetic.

so what you’re saying is red plastic with gold crank case is an older engine and such has better performance?

I just got out my TD .010 and the tank is black plastic. My apologies.
The memory is the SECOND thing to go. (Don't ask what is the FIRST)

oh boy will I! though.. as SuperDave once told me, it is not enough to have 10% nitro fuel on you... it must actually be in the tank XP (clever play on words SD, i like telling people that one now) Now the hardest part is to come... paying off the credit card, and waiting for that sucker in the mail! HA!

Shell shock I recommend using fuel higher than 10%
I recommend at least 20 for ease of starting and finding the right needle valve setting.
