I got more, but if you have then I'm not going to fuss.  This is my first airplane, Dad and I built it when I was 7 or so.

Cool! Pics saved in my E:/Modelling/Control Line/Plans/Half-A folder for a "some day" project.

So here is what I drew a while back. I am sure you will be able to build it from these drawings.

This is the plane I drew the plans from. It is a friends, and very old:

I really hope I did not break any rules on posting these drawn plans.

I am sure they will help and I hope to see a few of these built over the next few months from you guys.
I also want to build one at some point.

Looking for plan's for the "Lil Wizard" - Page 2 Empty Lil Wizard

Post  duck.co.za Sat Oct 04, 2014 3:35 am

As a kid I built and learnt to fly with a Lil Wizard . So when my youngest son showed some interest . I dug out the remains of my original air-frame !!
Looking for plan's for the "Lil Wizard" - Page 2 IMG_1817_zpsfe58048a

And with the help of the drawing from Theo , Luke and I have built a Lil Wizard .

Looking for plan's for the "Lil Wizard" - Page 2 IMG_1882_zpsbcdef956

Looking for plan's for the "Lil Wizard" - Page 2 IMG_1883_zpsee74d9b0

I then realised that Theo was a fellow South African ( small world ) Thanks Theo  , Luke is a very excited young lad .

Looking for plan's for the "Lil Wizard" - Page 2 IMG_1884_zps1df01c2a

Last Sunday we went and gave it a whirl !! As I said in my intro . I was chased out of the circle after about two try's !! Luke manged to do 2 and 1/2 circuits on his own . I must say the Wizard is a tough little plane .

I don't think I have flown CL since school !! and I have just had my 30th reunion Shocked
I have already started building a Stuntman and have found my plans of a Lil Jumping Bean and Lil Satin . I want to try and get the ribs laser cut for those two planes .

I would really like to find a copy of the Lil Wizard plan , just for nostalgia sake Laughing

Hi

Yes it is done on A4 pages.

I am not sure with me putting it on the site if there was some change in scale of the page.

You can verify by printing one and checking the dimension I put on the pages.

Looking for plan's for the "Lil Wizard" - Page 2 Empty Re: Looking for plan's for the "Lil Wizard"

Post  pkrankow Wed Mar 16, 2016 9:29 pm

I would suggest getting airfoil shaped balsa from Sig. http://sigmfg.com/ but that isn't very effective for international shipping. The profile is made, but I don't know where to send you.

The other choice is messy, but has been done by many people. You start by setting up a solid work surface. I always do this outside, and use a very straight, old, piece of painted shelf planking. Portability helps. Don't forget dust masks.

Mark off the airfoil onto the balsa. Section off the highest portion of the airfoil. Tape the full length of the balsa with some low-tack painter's masking tape. Use 2 layers so you can replace the top layer as needed. Let the bottom layer tape the balsa to the shelf plank. Set up the edge of the balsa so that you can place a spacer such as round metal rod, and have the correct thickness. Next is long-board sanding. Use a long straight board with sandpaper affixed to it and remove material till you have a polygon profile that is very near the shape of the airfoil Pull the tape then fair in with more sanding. As you work replace the top layer of tape before you wear through it.

It takes me all day to do one. The process is time consuming. Wear a dust mask. The results really are worth the effort.

Never owned a Lil' Wizard but I had a couple of friends in middle school who had them. Didn't it have some kind of fail safe that would give "up" elevator if the lines got slack? Did it really work? My mind is foggy as it was about 50 years ago! Huh... lol! I think I'll build one from your drawings, Happydad. Lets see, 2.54mm = 1 inch? bounce Affraid or WOW!

Looking for plan's for the "Lil Wizard" - Page 2 Empty Re: Looking for plan's for the "Lil Wizard"

Happydad's right. 1" is (precisely) 25.4 mm, or 2.54 cm (centimeters) or 0.0254 m.

Gotta love the metric system Smile

1" to 2.54 mm would produce either a very large or a very small Wizard, depending on which way you convert Wink

My irrelevant anecdote for today:
There's a legend of a church in Eastern Finland, that during the planning phase the minister ordered plans from a famous architect in Western Finland. Western areas were already converted to metric but the old carpenters in the village interpreted the dimensions to be in inches. That is one big-donkey church for such a small village lol!

Probably the story is just a myth but it is the biggest wooden church in Finland, seats about 3000, built in 1847.

I don't know what the problem is!! 2.54mm = 1" would build a plane from those plans with a 17 foot wing span.  Fit up a Rotax and anchor your control lines (cables) to a tractor and go flying.
                                                    lol!

(Man, I'd hate to sand the profile on that wing)

I guess my point wasn't well taken. Huh...  I'm not good at all with the metric system.  Almost all my tools are inch tools.  My micrometers and dial calipers are in 1/1000th of an inch, my lathes and mill handwheels are graduated in inch, I don't use the metric side of the tape rule. Even my drill bits are in fractions of an inch.  I drive in MPH, not KMH
Most plans are in inch.  It just threw me off to see metric measurements. Huh... Wow check out that babe, 91.44, 60.96, 91.44! Eyebrows Eyebrows  lol! Do we call our beloved Cox .049 a Cox .8cc?

Post  KariFS Fri Mar 18, 2016 7:38 am

lol!

I guess it's about what one is used to. There are good points in both systems. I prefer metric since that's what I've always used. A "bilingual" tapemeasure is a handy tool when figuring out how many mm's a distance like "3 foot 6 and 1/8" is. I have one Smile

BTW 90-60-90 is the "standard figure" around here. Some things are almost universal, no matter which system you use to measure them Wink

And yes, in Finland our beloved .049s go by the name "nollakasi Coxi", which is the Finnish for "zero_eight Cox". For some reason in our language we add an "i" to the end of (foreign) words that end with a consonant, hence "Coxi".

Dang, these are already my second and third pointless anecdotes today. Sorry, I'll shut up now silent
