Thimble Drome Champion Engine

Thimble Drome Champion Engine
I have a Thimble Drome Champion that I've had from when I was a youngster. I'm doing a restore project on it. Are the Doodle Bug and Lightning Bug cars also stamped "Champion" on the bottom, or are they stamped Doodle Bug and Lightning Bug? If not, how do I know which engine I have? Mine is either the .09 or the .15 because it has a smaller head. Does anyone know where I can find a .199 like Crank did in 2013?
PS You did a fantastic job on yours Crank!

Re: Thimble Drome Champion Engine
I didn't know how to tell them apart till Mudhen explained it in this post. All the bodies have Champion on them.
I think if it has ringed piston you have a .15, no rings .09. Ill keep and eye out for a .19 for ya. The gears were a little different between .09 and .19 but I can't remember what I ran into just now.
I will think about it an post back. Welcome to the Forum, I really like mine and still have it. Prices of these seem to have gone up lately.

Re: Thimble Drome Champion Engine
Hi Rusty
I just recently found this Cox Thimble Drome Champion car that I had as a kid in a shoe box at my parents house. It actually made it through 4 moves, including 2 cross country u-haul moves. I started researching and eventually found this forum. It took a a little week to become a member after registering, but well worth it. I came across Cranks posts, which was exactly the same restoration that I want to do. As it turns out mine is also an .09 Doodle Bug, so I'll be looking for a .199 engine and a matching ring gear. (The same problem Crank solved through this forum) Thanks for the welcome from both you and Crank.

Welcome to the forum! Yeah, we had a little issue where a setting got changed that required the Admin (me) to approve members instead of allowing members to confirm their accounts themselves by clicking a link automatically sent in an email. The setting likely got changed when I resynchronized the forum (resets post numbers, solves minor glitches in the software...) sometime last month. I didn't notice it for about 2 weeks as I usually don't look over the account lists in the admin panel unless someone needs help with their account. I activated all the accounts that were created during that time. Apologies for the wait!
