Thermal Hopper Crankshaft?
Thermal Hopper Crankshaft?
I have a Thermal Hopper that has a broken prop stud and I cannot get the stud out. I've tried everything I can think of to get it out, but no good. I was wondering if the crank of a Thermal Hopper is the same as for the other Bees and Product engines?
Also, it's missing the needle valve. What other needle valve will fit a Thermal Hopper needle valve body?
I'd really like to get this thing restored.

Re: Thermal Hopper Crankshaft?
The cranks on the early cast cases would break easy and was a big upgrade with the new Babe Bee machined case. It should just hammer out with a punch, heat first.

Re: Thermal Hopper Crankshaft?
I believe the prop stud is part of the crank, you will need a new crank. The needle is the same part number as Space bug jr.

Re: Thermal Hopper Crankshaft?
The Space Bug and the Thermal Hopper share the same front end. The Space Bug was created control line and the Thermal Hopper for free flight (thus the name?). Later came the cost-reduced Space Bug Junior which shared the same front end except the Junior cylinder has only one bypass port for easier handling.
As has been previously mentioned, the crankshaft contains the threads for the prop nut and can be removed by tapping on the front until the thrust plate comes off. If you find a source for the crankshafts please post it.
As for needle valve, I THINK the whole assembly from a TD might work until you find the proper needle for the Thermal Hopper.
Good luck.
