Guillows P-40, my next R/C build project for TD 049 platform
Just delivered by the postman from Oldmodelkits of USA....a beautiful balsa model originally purchased by the owner in 1967 but left in mint condition.
I will start building soon and post photos..just do not know why I do it, after the last airfield in my reasonably close neighborhood (where I maidened and flew e.g. my Cosmic Wind) accessible by car just closed down...looks like our dumb authorities started their b...tching around drones and anything else they have never heard of but see fly....ranging from the jack-knife thrown by a drunken husband, to COX engine powered small R/C planes...

Thanks for your interest, I will also watch out...and the wedding of my daughter is not expected before the summer of 2018 so my build is safe...

Yes, what Eric said.
Some of the new very light weight R/C systems would work well. Seems like you will have to build up the structure to handle a TD. I have bought a couple of their kits. I get his emails all the time telling about all the kit's that he acquires. Hundreds if not thousands, I wonder about his sources.
Post a thread about it.

Re: Guillows P-40, my next R/C build project for TD 049 platform
Eric, Bob,
thanks..when in my hands I actually found this bird a bit smaller than I first thought it was, so a TeeDee049 will certainly go ballistic with it. I usually use micro servos and batteries to cut on the payload, but as you know the TD049 is a real brute force. I will probably settle with only 3 channels (elevator, rudder and throttle control ) but I will decide on the throttle as option once I see how much room there is in its guts to conveniently place all electricals inside.
Yes I will need to sheet the front - at least - of the fuselage rather than just monocote it, plus I will replace some of the balsa stringers in the wing structure by carbon blades/rods that increase the strength against impact with the rough terrain I usually fly over.
I have a comparable size foam P-40 with electric motor, and it flies really very well and with authority, despite its low-wing design.
I will continue with photos posted once I start the build...stay tuned, and thank you for your interest.

Thanks for your interest. I was busy with other issues recently but plan to start the build soon. With my only flying field nearby closing down and 1 if the very few hobbyshop here selling me supplies going bankrupt there is not too much reason left unfortunately to hurry.
