I've had similar parcels off EBay suppliers, getting to the item is like a Christmas game of "Pass the Parcel"! and then you get the guy who drops valuable items in a padded envelope, usually with the address indecipherable, and they arrive in perfect order!

Oh, come on!
Shown is a USPS "flat-rate" shipping container that goes for $4.95 if it will fit into the provided box.

No, I was NOT refering to you, Indra! I meant stuff that comes from the States, it's either grossly over-packed, or not packed at all!

NOT necessarily, I sent an enquiry to OK Engines to see of they still have bits for the Cub range of engines, they replied saying they had needle valves for $3.50, and shipping to me would be $20!!! Twenty dollars to send a needle valve in a piggin' envelope?!
You can't blame Mr EBay for THAT one!

Indra:
Let me say this.
I worked my way through college at a US Post Office postal handling facility so I know the complication and ineffiencies of processing packages of varying sizes and wrappings.
A standard-sized cardboard container is whole lot more managable than packages of varying sizes and wrappings. Have you noticed the USPS packages are not longer bound by string?
Guess why?
BTW, The original US Post Office was the predicessor to the modern US Postal Service (USPS)

Maybe a little "over packaging" but at least it was packaged. I have gotten an engine sent to me in a used "document mailer" (has no bubble or foam lining), engine just tossed in there with no wrapping or padding wrapped around it. It didn't appear to have any damage when I removed it from the packaging so I suppose I was "lucky".

These engines are tough and from my experience not too much happens by being tossed around a bit apart from needle valves.

I had that once too. The prop stud was bent, but I do not think it happened in the mail. Luckily it was only a product engine.

I won a mint, never started, new in box, early seventies Cox Corsair on eBay from a lady. The Corsair was complete decal sheet, starting kit, battery, fuel, wreches, etc.
She carefully wraped the box and placed it in a larger box... but never bothering to secure or pack anything inside the box! The decal sheet was messed up and the Corair had some extra scratches, but for what I snipped it for I wasn't to upset!
