Memorial Day
To many, Memorial Day is the unofficial start to summer, but us Americans cannot forget the true meaning of the day. We need to take a moment to remember the sacrifice of our military service members, first responders, and their families. It is both a day of celebration and a day of somber remembrance. Let us honor our heroes and reflect on their tragic loss.
Re: Memorial Day
So, here's a question for our members who've served, are serving or had family members who have served. What's your thoughts on the phrase "Happy Memorial Day"?
Quite some years ago while picking up a pizza from the local VFW, I got a nice earful after wishing an old vet a "Happy Memorial Day". "I won't be" he answered, "nothing joyful about this day". Before then, I really haven't stopped to think about exactly what I was saying. I have since moved away from saying "Happy Memorial Day". However, it can indeed be a day of celebration as the day is often used as a time for family and friend get-togethers and we remember the good times we've had with family and friends who are no longer with us, while honoring their service.
I bring this up as a stare at the banner I've used for the past few years.

Re: Memorial Day
I was taken aback when I saw the above banner Jacob, thinking also - this is not a "happy" day but one of remembrance and respect.
I had an Uncle that served in the Army during WW2, he survived the war but died years later of lung cancer. I always think of him on this day. Nothing "happy" about either event.

Re: Memorial Day
Okay I edited out the "Happy" text the best I could.
I think I've questioned myself about the banner the last few years I've used it... I didn't actually make it or add the "Happy Memorial Day" text to it. I think it was really a free banner for Facebook or something.

Re: Memorial Day
You weren't alone Jacob, RC Groups has a very similar banner.
Kids actually came over with Bo Jangles chicken, eat out on the back deck. Rode the ATV's around the neighborhood. About as close to normal as we could get under the circumstances.

Re: Memorial Day
I almost posted about "Happy Easter", but read
it a few times and thought better of it. Glad I did.
