Cox Engine of The Month
3 D gas tank
3 D gas tank
My nephew won a competition on the Disney Channel and got a wow wow wee 3 D printer. He said he would help me print out an external gas tank for one of my engines.
I have been unable to locate the files needed to 3D print an external tank for my .049 engine.
Any one know were I can find those files?
Thanks

You may not be able to print it on your wow wow wee 3D printer. You need to show specs. Table printing area, L x W x H, nozzle size Etc.

Re: 3 D gas tank
Thanks Guys . . .
This is what I needed to get me started.
Hope to report back later with successful results.
I’ve already found files to replace the wheels on my Sandblaster and Dune Buggy

I don’t think these wheels are real or soft. The other guys who sell these printed wheels tell you they are hard plastic and are good for display, but do not grab the dirt well. Maybe these are a different material.
Again see me. I have several Sand Blaster bodies, chassis and I don’t know exactly how many wheels. I am in the process of making 1 a RC version with direction control and limited speed control via either exhaust throttle, or adjustable muffler.

How large a tank do you need ? I have 2 or 3 so where in the RC car conversion drawer. I need a 1/2ounce for the tee dee .020 Biplane and the ones I have are larger. Also I just bought a nice tank, but it is too large, maybe 2ounces. Clunk weight etc.. Can’t do pics yet with the iPad, but can type fast. Edit later after I find tanks.

This is the exact project I am working on. I’ve got a near complete sandblaster and near complete dune buggy. We probably should PM the other our surplus parts. . .

Re: 3 D gas tank
Google turns up nothing for a wow wow wee 3 D printer.
The material I was using, DuPont Zytel (natural, carbon fiber, and glass filled), went end of life.
Zytel is a form of nylon so if you can print at extruder temps of 260C to 280C and have a bed temperature from 100C to 120C you should be able to print nylon direct to glass using Dimafix adhesive.
Matterhackers has a few versions of nylon PA6 and PA12 available. You would need to see if nitromethane softens the material up. Other than that you will need to experiment. PLA, ABS, and PETG will not work with direct glow fuel contact.
You will need to change to a hardened A2 tool steel nozzle of you print any carbon fiber or glass filled filaments.

definitely not wow wow wee size. looks like a nice small printer, I am so jealous. I bought my youngest granddaughter a 3D pen last Christmas. 3D printing in a pen about 3/4 inch in diameter. She liked it for a while. you know girls and toys. Her sister is the one who just graduated US ARMY boot camp and goes back to Purdue soon. Army ride.
keep at it and keep posting.

Yeah that’s a $6000 printer with an $1100 cart. We have a few of those at work. The acceleration and xy jerk needs to be tuned down a bit to take the ringing out but they can print pretty much any material. Hope he prints more than fidget spinners with it.
