It was for the Cox Avion P51B Bendix Trophy Racer airplane. Used this special backplate and needle valve. I have one or two in my collection.

Jason_WI: I saw the plane, but the engine looked like a normal horseshoe backplate engine from the picture I saw. Did it need a special backplate? How was the reed-needle valve assembly mounted?

I have one of these in the spares box also. It was also used on another plane, but I can't remember which at the moment.

The Delrin version looks identical to the Testors Pipe Bomb rear end, except it had a ridge to clip it into place.

Worth $20...

get back: according to the seller, this item is worth $20. That is one of the things that tweeked my interest. Also the fact that the air intake is similar to the Queen Bee, but smaller. I have been thinking of making something like this to stick on the back of a standard extruded Cox engine. Other people have made things already, but used a lathe to make one. I need to finish cleanup of the garage now!
I have even used the old gray horseshoe backplate and tried different ways of getting air and fuel mixed and into the back of the gray backplate. More to try.
If you are interested in letting me borrow 1 of those bad boys, or sending me the measurements, I would be forever indebted.
