cox 010 cylinder wanted

I hate chrome plating
if it releases it makes sharp shards

Hate is a pretty strong word for a effective and necessary process that MOST of the modern engines we play with have applied to piston, cylinders, or both... Slightly different but not much from Nickle plating

ABN, ABC, or AAC are the current modern 2strok diesel and glow piston/Cylinder configurations versus old school Iron Iron ringed or no ring gas, glow diesel engines of the last century....more than one go fast guy has chrome plated small .010, .020, .049 engines....I believe the renowned Shuriken were chrome plated

It is/was used by hobbyists thousands of times making mediocre engines have longer life or higher power for racing / endurance

I have 6 too many hobbies right now but expect in near future to set up for home Hobby electro plating and Chemical/ electric anodizing

yea but engine chrome is a diferent chrome then chrome from chrome plating

Well, I think it’s pretty cool. Not too expensive either. The hard plate would be the ticket, I wonder how you chrome only the inside of the cylinder?

Y just also plated the outside . Exept its .010 dont have the option of aluminium piston and stainles To stainles wil just do more damage it nead to plate just its piston Not the conecting rod Not its cylinder cylinder may nead honing if Not Perfect round and piston nead litle machining polish and laping inside its new spec cylinder tight fit à .010 piston tink a master in craftman custom engine wil have hard time wit the hard plating surface its very hard

I have seen all sorts of special jigs made for chroming Bronze Liners only on the inside...The .010 cylinder would be a challenge but basically a physical barrier like modeling clay (some can handle relative warm temps) amd some fixture to suspend the cylinder in the solution with the anode INSIDE only plating the inside

I have seen YouTube on the bigger engines with Piston and Liner Nickle or Chrome plated.....I don't play with the dinky .010 but have a fair collection of aging .051s....Like the .020 and .010 never have found a source for NIB pistons and cylinders...

On The other hand ...High temp tape for base threads and sacrificial glow head for inside threads and just chrome the whole cylinder..I love shiney....grin

I still need a new cylinder
but I tried blueing the broken one
it ran for 1 min and then it flooded
so the compressing went up but not enough to run it normaly

Have u try place The cylinder in a stove max power for like couple houre t'il it forme black coating inside out the parts and hardened its surface and try plate piston wit vinegar salt electrolite use nickel peny mony made wit just métal nikel Magnetic ferrous nickel wil last longer than copronikel make search it work on stainles methal coper after multiples 15minute of bath just its piston t'il piston fit tight then use step 1no1 polish compound for laping its piston in cylinder dont use normal electrolite made of batry acid it wil destroy the crome plated surface wil peal just try u have noting To lose

I dont see what heating would do
if it were cast iron it would swell but this issnt cast
also the black oxide layer isnt that thick
we dont have any nickle pennies here (euro coins)
also isnt the nickle from pennies a weak coating?
also nickle and chrome are 2 diverent compounds


ps did 10 layers of blueing
it did not work
so blueing will not work for 010 engine

I have 2x .010 cylinder /piston kits , in factory cox package , cox part # 29-13750 . I'd want $100 to part with a kit though . pretty rare stuff your looking for .. cheers ..

I think that smearing the piston evenly with a thin layer of silver solder. Perhaps this can work instead of plating.

no I did never got it fixed
so I sold it for in someones cabinet
but that means I dont have a 010 to run anymore

i know everyone will "pooh-pooh" me for the suggestion, but Bernie has a .010 TD, with box.

it aint cheap, but it would be a perfect .010 for ANY application
