Mystery Wen Mac MkII and it's not alone
It has a brother.
Got to looking around my box of Wen Mac engines checking for power options for one of my P-26's and discovered these two. Looks like they have interupter pin's on the drive plate and riveted on extra mounts. One had tubing stuffed down the intake. One off, I would say someone was fooling around, but two? - has to be factory.
Any ideas? Speciality built for one of their models? Why the pin?

Not a BIG mystery, but a short lived production run of the " Rubber Band" Starter. A "O" ring was used to catch on the protruding pin, and was mounted in the Little brass thingy on the bottom lug. When I get back to my Lap top I can copy and paste the paragraph or two describing the set-up. It's on the Facebook pages of the 049 collector ( Mark Boesen's site)

Thanks Rene, that has bugged me for a long time. I scoured the internet looking for an answer but didn't find one. I think Mark's site is on Yahoo and I don't go there.

Re: Mystery Wen Mac MkII and it's not alone
Thanks Rene,
2012, a couple of years before my time here.
I'm surprised that the concept lasted two years. Not practical at all. I tried it with several different O rings to no success. What worked best was a rubber band from one of my rubber band powered locomotives.
Never did show these Wen Mac's much affection. Although I have ran one or two but never one with the baffled exhaust. Kind of eager to do that.
I swapped some needles and prop nuts aound to get some continunity within types and mounted them on stands. Affection long denied.
Sometimes you get a boo-boo working with this stuff. I was going to include a picture of the blood soaked toilet paper liquid stopper but considered it too gruesome. I'm pointing toward the culprit.
Some time ago Mark B sent me a DVD with catalogs regarding the Wen's. I was hoping that one would have a description about the O ring starter, but not.
Edit add;
Searched flex-o ring and found one of my old threads. Nothing about the rubber band starter though.

Yup, the more I learn, the more I realize How much I don't know!! You have done justice to those WenMac/AMF/Testors, they look real nice cleaned and mounted like that.
PS: was it the sharpe edge of the plexiglass that got ya, or was it a prop stirke on the roto-matic starter?

A "risk taker" is a leading indicator for DUMB, and I'm a risk taker.
Instead of using a clamp I drilled the plexiglas backplate holding it by hand. Worked fine for the small 3/64" brass mounting screw holes, but when I drilled the 1/4" hole for the rivet relief it caught spinning the backplate back into my finger slapping it around a bit, didn't do my sacrificial board much good either. Scarred up the backplate too. Hurt a "whole" lot.
The pitiful part is the clamp was just an arm reach away.
Funny, the first engine I ever mounted was a Wen Mac with this overly large backplate. Easy to remember.
