the Punchline
Hi All,
I have worked a few Movie sets.
Union people are cool, if you want to join them.
So, here is my story,
East end of Don river. Clear the hill. Done.
Wait for director/etc. Perfect day.
Slight SW breeze, had some paper we folded into gliders, perfect slope day.
Director was a loud mouth idiot.
Made Kathleen Edwards roll down the 45 deg hill.
She did it with glee. (you have to meet her)
I power washed the waterbased graffitti on the last set.
Results here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pZg6WQ_WppA
I want a 24in glider.
Take the train/bus/etc to that hill...
Mortals might understand,
Local cops?
Take care,
Have fun,
Dave

Pretty woman.
Pretty voice.
Interesting special effects, but I had a hard time with the "humor" of the video.

It starts out with the appearance that someone, a musician (guitarist) who helped her make recordings (the records on the shelf) walked out of her life, then it shows how she now feels, as though it was like the gory details of suffering physically deadly injuries of all sorts from people that seem so innocent, yet dishonestly vengeful. She throughout the song also ends with the same words, "I don't need a punchline."944_Jim wrote:Pretty woman. Pretty voice. The humor in the video is in the irony that there is no humor, she can't explain why she has feelings like everyone is stabbing her in the back (talking about her in destructive (deadly) gossip, to seek payback revenge on her) without any reasonable cause or meaning.
I think @HalfaDave is simply showing us the nature of work that he is involved with, to help make this production video happen. The ambiguous interpretation of the video is left up to the viewer.

Re: the Punchline
Hi gg and jim,
Do not read too much into my rambling thoughts...
Chilly grey wet spring here.
Friends/clubs here are on hold due to some new weird 400ft altitude limit...
Got to thinking about slope soaring.
Remembered that hill on the east side of downtown Toronto.
Google reminded me I was 'on set' in the video. (~2min in for 5 seconds)
I got paid, wonderful creative people to get things done with.
Doing some math...
If I bring $500 cash, I can probably bail myself out of jail.
The Maple Leafs are in the playoffs, so no one will notice me flying.
Hard part will be a steady SW wind ~10/15 knots.
the Punchline?
Kate Bush 'Running up that Hill' was on the FM radio that day. (google it)
Also,
All the good names for 1/2A designs are used up.

Take care,
Have fun,
Dave

Re: the Punchline
@HalfaDave, I was referring to the symbology of the singing music video, which would be according to the screen writer's intent or plot. You have an interesting job being support staff. So, wasn't reading into what you do.
Personally, no offense, but I am not into all that blood and gore, even though it is intended for entertainment by the producers.
I may be old fashioned because I like the old cowboy songs prior to 1960. They were always about happy trails.

Re: the Punchline
Hi gg,
I had the parking permits, cleared the 'field/slope'. For the shoot. (4hrs) Background is downtown Toronto.
Waited, we flew FF paper gliders and they almost hovered in front of us in the lift.
Rest of the day was getting stuff done, and getting out of there.(before rush hour!)
Kathleen was great. In/out in 15minutes. I met her stunt double too !
The whole 'process' is weird to me.
The 'video' has nothing to do with the song. (listen to it with eyes closed)
If you ever get to meet 'movie people' , do it.
It will change your perspective, forever.
I may be stupid,
But
The song is Chameleon,
"I hear you are are a comedian,
Hiding behind your funny face."
The riddles/jokes/puns are the jest.
Changing and hiding is a theme
Every time
Every time
I don't need a Punchline
Perfect 1/2A design name...
Take care,
Have fun,
Dave

Re: the Punchline
Hi All,
I was looking for a place to fly,
On a cold and dampish day...
With respect,
You should hear Kathleen:
https://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-d&q=tiny+desk+kathleen+edwards#fpstate=ive&vld=cid:2cbb85bd,vid:kW6WICBscx4
I have contacted the relevant Toronto people.
They are sending forms to fill out.
This will be fun.
Toronto SMALL anyone?
Be careful what you wish for...
Take care,
Have fun,
Dave

I don't need a Punchline
Often, there is an underlining theme by the script writers and director that they want to convey to the audience. Her being continually backstabbed and shot at in a deadly manner reminds me of clowns. Before, we enjoyed clowns, grew up with Bozo the Clown. Clowns used to be funny, lift people up with laughter by their antics. Now, clowns have become those who kidnap children and do adults harm, from good turned to bad.
- Regarding clowns:
- When I was a member of the 300th Army Reserve Band, Bell, CA, we did the annual Army Birthday Ball at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. One year, the 63d Army Reserve Command leadership had peeved my warrant officer band leader. When they were announcing the various leaders during the ceremony, he changed the background music at the last minute and we played "Send in the Clowns" made popular by singer Barbara Streisand.
However, the artist herself is an excellent singer. Remove the video and listen to her singing, it is pleasant.
Regarding the video's meaning, hidden or otherwise, it is obviously not for children and for overall entertainment not for goodness of adults. (When I was 6 years old, I still remember watching on our black and white tube (valve) TV back in the early 1960's, the movie, The Mummy. I had a nightmare, the mummy was coming after me, dragging his one foot and I was trying to run away. I had another nightmare after watching a gangster movie. I was in their get away car and it flew off the cliff like it did in the movie. I guess we had clowns even back then. Since it was B&W, my dreams were in B&W.
Not saying your posting of the video to illustrate your work is wrong,
- it is just for me:
- That I pay attention to - "Guard your heart with all vigilance, for from it are the sources of life." Proverbs 4:23 (NETfree). As for the morbid images in the video, for this reason I personally don't watch such morbidness. It does not edify me. There are much happier things to focus on. (An old adage about computers parallels our minds: GIGO - garbage in, garbage out.)
Why I no longer even watch TV, not even the news; instead I selectively choose what I watch. Recently, I have been purchasing books. I've also turned back to memorizing Bible verses on plain verse cards (a helpful way for me to learn Spanish). In reading books, I am finding out that the current day narratives are obscuring historic truth with lies, that our politicians are no longer for the best of the people but for their own enrichment. They are now the clowns. Reading books keeps my mind occupied on other things more edifying, basically the truth. Also of interest, books that were considered classics are now being banned by ultra-wealthy merchants. Never let the truth interfere with a good story. Again, the clowns...
I was an audience fill-in for a high school girl's basketball game done in Portales, NM around 2012. The movie set was the old Eastern New Mexico University Gymnasium still on-campus but obsoleted recently by a new gym complex on the other side of the campus.HalfaDave wrote:If you ever get to meet 'movie people' , do it. It will change your perspective, forever.
My wife and daughter were with me, but I got selected as part of the bleachers stand audience for the home (winning) team. (We needed to dress up as Okies did in the 1950's. ) It was for a movie, Believe in Me, a story about an Oklahoma City high school's girl's basketball team back in the 1950's, when women's sports were not considered as a worthy activity. An out-of-state teacher takes this girl's team, and makes them into champions, which helped to set the mark for the importance of women's high school sports. Because the directors needed buildings and surroundings that could pass for Oklahoma back then, they selected various rural schools and scenery in New Mexico and Texas Panhandle as they looked rustic enough to pass for Oklahoma. So, for a brief moment of glory, I became an "Okie".
The starring female had a "Magic Johnson" type hoop shoot where at half court, she would shoot a 3 pointer that would put their team ahead of the other. She tried a half dozen times, but didn't quite make it. Then the director advised that if she was unable, they would make it up with CGI. The 9th or 10th time, she finally made it.
The shooting took all day. We got there around 8:00 AM in the morning, didn't leave until about 6:00 PM. Later I learned that the movie did not get selected by the major motion picture companies. It was purchased by an airline company, for viewing during their extended lengthy flights. However, I found the DVD on Amazon about a year or two after the movie was filmed, and thus purchased it.
The "Comedian"? or, the "Chameleon"?HalfaDave wrote:Perfect 1/2A design name...
