Engine #4 can't be a pusher?
I thought it was a puller (tractor).
The prop is on the wrong way to be a pusher!

When testing, IMO, it is better to have the wind on the engine than sucking away. It doesn't detract from the engine's appearance.sosam117 wrote:Engine #4 can't be a pusher? I thought it was a puller (tractor). The prop is on the wrong way to be a pusher!

I guess that you could mount the engine/power pod on the wing the way it is.
With the cone/tank to the rear and the engine to the front, the way it was photographed and have it as a tractor?

Congrats @Basswood, your special carburetted reedie in blue with power pod was ahead by a landslide, others not even close.

I won yahoo
Thanks to everyone who voted on my engine build. I have a lot of fun building, running and flying these Cox engines. Sorry about the prop thing. I was going to switch the prop to a pusher pitch before the photo’s but forgot. Can't get anything past you guy’s. thanks for your support.

Basswood, it was on the merits of the appearance and special features of your custom engine and matching color for the power pod that garnered you the win this month IMO. Regarding the prop, I know how that goes. Engines can overheat when not in the air, so for a static test run, at least for me, I'd mount a tractor prop to put the wind where it needs to be to cool the engine.Basswood wrote:Sorry about the prop thing. Using a truer to form pusher prop would be suction to pull the air over the engine fins. It is not as efficient as the pull is from all directions, not directly where the engine is at. Once in the air though, the engine has the wind from the aircraft movement through the air accelerated somewhat by the rotating prop.

I agree, I bench run all my engines first to break them in and find any issues before taking them out into the field. It would seem you would get more air over the engine flying but what about bench testing with a standard tractor pitch prop verses a three blade pusher?
My head is starting to hurt
