Mother's Mag Polish
After reading some posts on the forum, I picked up a can of this stuff at the auto store for $6. This stuff works wonders to old Babe Bees! Makes them look new.

Mother's
I have used this for years. Simple plain truth best stuff going. I fly UC stunt and use old Veco metal spinners and get them to look like crome. Use it on silver and watch it gleam. Shinny like a new dime as they use to say.

Re: Mother's Mag Polish
Anyone know how Mothers Mag & Aluminum compares with Simichrome which is available at many bike shops?

Been awhile since I've had a tube, but seems like Simichrome is grittier than Mothers. Which would make sense, as chrome plate is a way harder surface than aluminum/magnesium.
Simichrome might be good to take down serious corrosion in soft metal, then finish it off with something smoother. "Horses for courses", like the Brits say.

Wire brush on the bench grinder touching the knuckles doesn't feel too good....
Re: Mother's Mag Polish
did you use polishing paste with it? run it on high rpms, and put some pressure on it.microflitedude wrote:I tried to use a Dremel buffing wheel, but didn't have much luck with it.

I rubbed a small amount of polish on the engine, and set it on the lowest RPM. (which still seemed too high) It just smeared it around and didn't buff it off. I'll try it on high.
Re: Mother's Mag Polish
I seem to get best results with Mothers, by using hand buffing with a soft microfiber cloth and light pressure. When black residue appears on cloth, shift to an unused part of cloth. If aluminum is in poor condition, I start with fine steel wool.
Patience and elbow grease, grasshopper! Repeated applications will make it like a mirror.

That is exactly what I did. A special microfiber polishing cloth, shifting around, and multiple applications.
Re: Mother's Mag Polish
I have also had good results buffing the polish off with paper towels. I tried several different brands and have best results with the blue, so called "shop towels" purchased at auto parts store. High speed buffing with pressure doesn't seem to work for me.
