Swap Meet!
Trying my best to make plans to attend a Swap Meet/ Chili Cookoff/FunFly Febuary 9th. About an hour and a half away in Lake City.
Not sure if I want to pay the $20 landing fee which includes a table; I don't have anything to sell, just planes to fly. However, they are giving away a 91" RTF 3D'er...
I've never seen another human in real life fly a 1/2a plane at an event. Should be fun. Assuming it still flies. Which there is a 60% chance of.

Yes, those are all 'leckies minus the Cub.

Re: Swap Meet!
I don't think I'll be flying. $20 landing fee is the price of 2 or 3 Lipo packs, which I could use.
Spectating again...

Re: Swap Meet!
Surely not everyone attending needs a table. Is there a way of contacting the club that is hosting the event? Tell them you just want to fly a couple planes

I did - no go. They said it was a package deal only.
I don't see the point. I could even do without the lunch.

Well, that really frosts my bottom! How do we expect to pass this hobby to the next generation when we don't even let them participate. It should be free for someone your age.

Re: Swap Meet!
Yep, that does seem odd, every swap meet I've ever been to had a general admittance, and if you wanted to sell you 'rented' a table?
FYI, It's a common practice, not saying its right or wrong, but if your planning on going to a swap meet to buy, always 'rent' a table (even if your not selling anything) that way you get in a hour or so before the doors open and you'll likely pick up some deals, before the public comes in.

Re: Swap Meet!
Our local swap meet there is a $5 entrance fee and tables are free. $20 seems outrageous.

Maybe the host club has an insurance premium they have to cover.microflitedude wrote:cribbs74 wrote:Surely not everyone attending needs a table. Is there a way of contacting the club that is hosting the event? Tell them you just want to fly a couple planes

Re: Swap Meet!
I didn't think the price was unfair, as it included flying, lunch, a table, and a raffle ticket. The only part I wanted though was the flying. No big deal.
I was fine without flying for several reasons after getting out there. The wind was a steady 15 mph, which is no fun for small planes. We also brought back 4 planes in a tiny car, which would not have fit if I had brought the others.
Bought a used Flyzone Cessna Corvallis RXR for $35, a NIB UMX GeeBee for $40, (wanted one of these since before they were created) and a 3s 2.2 Turnigy pack for $20. That would be the first new airplane I have ever bought.
Had a great time. The food was great, the people were awesome, and plenty of cool airplanes to buy/fly. The owner of the local hobby shop just walked up and gave my little brother a new mini vapor. (lightweight RC plane) He gave me some deans connectors for the Corvallis.
I don't think they made anything off the event. There was $175 worth of chili prize money, an $800 plane in the raffle (among others) and the owner was constantly giving away stuff.
All in all a good day.
