Gasket material what do you use ???
Ok so some of you may have seen my thread on my little os engine well the gaskets are knackered so as its about 50 years old am thinking there not still available
Sooooo what can I make them out of is normal gasket paper (automotive) ok am thinking its a bit thick to be honest the gaskets that came out I say out and not off because someone has taken it apart before hence why it was covered in so much crud what do you think for material whatever I use I know it's gonna be fiddly but don't have any other choice

Gasket Paper
or try different thickness 'paper'.
I'm holding some 90gsm which I think would be fine.

Re: Gasket material what do you use ???
I have cut gaskets from brown paper bags for a lawnmower engine and a weed whip engine before, so far I havent had an issue. You could also use an index card or most other heavy paper.
Re: Gasket material what do you use ???
I fixed a leaky commode valve with a cardboard beer coaster once. Too thick for the plane engine, but I agree with Admin, brown paper grocery bags are good. The grocery store ice cream bags are thicker and might work too. The cardboard boxes that candy sometimes comes in are pretty tough.

Here are my old standbys

card stock

For extra thin gaskets

There are many more materials that can be used.

Playing cards are a great idea, especially the ones that have a fabric ply sandwiched into them.

The guy on ebay with the mylar 049 gaskets could make you one.
Re: Gasket material what do you use ???
Great ideas guys thanks am liking the playing card idea and also cereal box as it has shiny surface one side which is quite tough meter thought of that guy on eBay don't know how I would get a pattern to him though good thinking guys will try tommorow and see how we get on
