One of my Heroes (I have Many !!!), and his account of one of his Model Airplane Adventures (He had Many!!!) from the February 1966 issue of Model Airplane News.

When I was a kid, my Uncle Wayne would give me his old model airplane magazines, some SEVERAL years old, and stories like this one always fascinated me.

Radio Control in itself was a wild enough proposition in the 1960's, but flying the plane cross-country???!!! THAT was pure Lindbergh Territory!

Mr. Hill obviously wasn't happy to cut a notch here and there in the world-records of this hobby...he loved to take a chainsaw to any record that popped up.  His photos always appeared in the magazines with him peering through giant binoculars at the speck of his plane climbing to airliner altitudes, posing with some rocket-looking plane as he pursued speed records, fiddling with his engines, and plenty of other stuff that's escaped me.

This, all pulled off with radio gear that could be incredibly cranky and undependable, even on the high-dollar end.

With this kind of "imprinting" as a kid, it should come as no surprise to any of my friends when they're hit up for money to support a charity flight, involving me chasing a model airplane from a pick-up truck or helicopter!

So, here's another article down that line...kind of wordy, but enjoyable considering it's vintage, and if nothing else, I've been told that the old ads are fun to check out  !!!!

Good read Kim thanks, That plane sure got good fuel economy, must have had a tail wind most of the way. Starlite 500 for $495 in 1965. You would have had to get a loan for that!
