Allen Brickhaus
Well, I came in way behind on this sad news, but it's apparently true that my friend, Mr. Allen Brickhaus has died. I've got absolutely no other info, but will try to find out when his services are to be held.
This guy was an absolute master in the world of Control Line Stunt, and several other fields for that matter. The boundaries of his COMPLETELY selfless dedication to firing up and maintaining interest in our sport are difficult to comprehend.
As of late, one of his passions has been his Patton Street Pirate Pilots, a gang of youngsters he was methodically working toward entry into control line flight. Not sure what will happen there, but I will pass along any news.
This days sucks. I am forcing myself to remember and be glad for Allen's friendship AND general antagonism as he continued to challenge me to be a little better builder and pilot. We need to appreciate each other, guys.

Re: Allen Brickhaus
Crap! I just came downstairs and fired up the computer to see this, I was on his email list and he had been traveling/posting photos of his new ship just last week?
He was a good guy and will be missed!

Re: Allen Brickhaus
I had never met him online or otherwise, but his reputation preceded him for the reasons Kim stated. I rarely search for information in the CLPS world that doesn't have some contribution from Allen.
According to one post over at Stunthangar, he was on the phone talking modeling last night. It really hurts to see the masters leaving us with so little young blood following in their footsteps. As Kim pointed out in one of his threads, Allen was making an active effort to seed the hobby with new talent. I hope it sticks, and I hope this kicks others into action to pass the hobby along. I'll try to do it in a small way in my little corner of the world.

Re: Allen Brickhaus
Gus the I.A. Informed me about his passing while I was driving home from AR.
Seems a lot of these CL giants are slipping away. Shame really. I don't like the trend....

Re: Allen Brickhaus
My heart sank when I read Gus the IA's post over on the "Patton Street Pirate's" thread that Kim had started... It was always great to read the updates. Allen was such an inspiration and mentor for those kids. They will never forget the lessons he taught them.
Rest in Peace Allen Brickhaus.
Thanks to Kim for his postings on Allen's dedication to youth Aero-modeling. I never had the pleasure to meet this man... yet I feel like I knew him through Kim's updates on the "Pirates"

Re: Allen Brickhaus
That's sad news, indeed. I've seen him fly several times when the Paducah Club had their Fun Flys and Charity Meets. He and Charlie Reeves were the driving force in that club behind C/L flying. I know his enthusiasm, expertise and contributions will be sorely missed in western Kentucky and in the C/L community in general.

Although this is an older thread, I ran across this link and thought I would post it. It may be of interest for those of us in the 5 state area since it's another plan by Allen Brickhaus.

Hip Pocket Aeronautics is another excellent plans source for all sorts of planes. You have to join (free) to be able to download, but I use this site and Outerzone as my two primary sources.
Can't hotlink into Hippocketaeronautics, so here's a jpg.

Re: Allen Brickhaus
I occasionally use some things in my flightbox that remind me of Allen. As I mentioned in my post above, I'd never met him, but he was a member of my CL club, MCLS, and good friends with Will Davis, Watt and Wayne. I had the honor of helping in a small way to build his last prototype plane, the Fanfare in Watt's shop. They were designing the electric configuration for the kit. I inherited a few of his home made handles and line sets, and I always flew the Magnum on a set of his .018" bronze colored lines.
