Re: testors mccoy 049 cylinders
I can't guarantee it, but I believe that all the cylinders which use a glow head should interchange. I believe the last of the Wen Macs (Hotshot series from Mk. 10?) had a finned cylinder below the exhaust, wheras the Testors were thin with no fins. This same cylinder carried on to the "Pipe Bomb" engine, allowing a muffler ring to be fitted over the lower part of the cylinder.

Re: testors mccoy 049 cylinders
Thanks for the pic bandit. Rod, I think you are right with maybe a few exceptions. I know there is at least one cylinder I dont have but it doesnt matter. I think one exception is the engine that just has a T on it, and it say's McCoy #2 049. I think that one has the fat cylinder like a wen mac mkXIII. I am going to try to post a pic of the two types of cylinders I have.
It would be great if someone has one of the #2 049's and would post a pic of it.
So right now i'm thinking the left cylinder goes on my wen mac's and the right one goes on the McCoy versions except the #2 049.

All these are Wen -Mac , AMF So I would say the one on the left is wen mac . McCoy ??? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Testors-McCoy-049-Model-Glow-Engine-/181685275408?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2a4d494b10 ??

Re: testors mccoy 049 cylinders
Phil.
I have a McCoy #2 so I'll dig it out & check. All the engines that Eric shows are the earlier Wen Macs and the later cylinders are completely different and don't fit. There was one "transitional" model Wen Mac that had the first of the "later" type cylinders which was grafted onto an early crankcase. The crankcase was machined down so far to fit the cylinder that there is only a small portion of the writing left on the sides- it has been machined off. This model had the "thick" cylinder I think.
I think the two cylinders Phil shows, although appearing very different, are actually interchangeable.

Thanks Rod, if you can snap a pic it would be great. The cylinders are interchangable but I have been on a kick lately to get my engines back the way they came or as close as I can. I got one more wen mac mkXII straightened out today and test ran it. It ran pretty good. Soon I'll be down to my last two and I need crankshafts for them.

Re: testors mccoy 049 cylinders
I have a heap of spare pistons/rods and a few crankshafts, but I can't confirm what models they're out of. Most of the pistons are new. I fitted one in a Testors I got with a broken rod & it ran just fine. Some had domed tops & some flat. If I can help you out with a couple of parts I'm glad to do so. Will cost you postage from AUS though.

Re: testors mccoy 049 cylinders
Phil.
Sorry I haven't been able to snap any pictures, but I had a rummage through my engines and can confirm that the cylinder fitted to both the McCoy No.1 and No.2 are the same, being the same also (in appearance anyway) as the Wen Mac MkXII & MkXIII. The No.1 & No.2 both appear identical externally and both have the "T" symbol on the side. It seems that as soon as they dropped the McCoy name and became Testors, they went exclusively for the cylinder with the narrow cylinder below the exhaust. If you discover that there are only two types of cylinders in your collection which took the glow head, then I think you'd be pretty safe assuming that they were wide up to McCoy No.2 and narrow from the time they used the Testors name rather than just the "T").
