Good looking bipe ken!

I recall the one we built back in the 70's was a great flyer and my new one will bee as well. I have the engine running more consistent than it was Fun little plane to fly! I had hopped to fly some this evening but once again it's a bit windy. Hoping for Friday.....

Thankfully, there doesn't appear to be any damage.  A couple of the air cells protecting the kits had popped.
I only opened one kit and everything seems to be in order.

Nice color scheme Ken.  I like the matching Golden Bee too.  Years ago I would have opted a GB for mine, but I think that the smaller tanked Babe Bee will run out of fuel quickly saving me from the dizzies.  Smile  Why not just replace the prop and fly it?  I refurbed my old Baby Ringmaster Jr. and flew it perhaps 35 years after putting it up.

Roger I was thinking about offsetting the firewall a degree or two when I glued it on by beveling the fuselage but decided just to use washers on the inside mounts if I found it necessary.

You got lucky Rod.  Looks like that package got the full gorilla treatment.  I'm eagar to see what you come up with. Is the white object the cowl that you intend to use?

Roger sent me one of his spray can caps to use as a cowl. It will depend on which engine I use. I got two kits, one with a standard firewall and one to take the cowl. Not sure if I'll build both, or maybe I'll donate one to a good cause. I'd like to compare engines. I plan to maybe use a Black Widow in one, (my Tach Race prize) and a Testors 8000 in the other for comparison, or maybe I could just swap engines and see. I still haven't fitted a Cub engine to anything yet. Must finish my current build first. Still have one complete that I haven't flown yet.

I hear you Rod on the Black Widow.   I want to build a hybrid BW with a BW top end and a Babe Bee tank.  But I want a black tank and I have never seen one.  So I'm thinking of using a BB tank from a junk engine and spraying it black with LusteKote dope,  But it's only fuel proof to about 15% nitro and I'm using 25%.  I just want a black engine hanging out front like the one on the pictured example above.  What do you think?

Either that or I'm going to use the Babe Bee with the red spinner.  Of all the engines pictured it's the best running and easiest starter.

The RMH Bipe build thread - Page 2 Bipe%20w%20wheels%20004_zpsy31inqqw

Got it painted today and installed the control rod assembly, also used some lead-out eyelets on the guide strut.  Lot's yet to do.  Got some more trim to add and decals to find fitting for this model.

The RMH Bipe build thread - Page 2 Bipe%20w%20wheels%20007_zpsk40pnndm

If Roger does a second run, I just might install some bearers and put one of my Wen Macs on it.

Thanks Bob,  I was worried that it may be plastic like their other 8cc tank but it isn't, it's anodized aluminum.  Saved me some work.  Got to put together an order and include one or two.

I could just fill an 8cc tank half full, but I wanted a shorter engine hanging out front as I probably will not cowl this one.

The other Bob Smile

Edit add. Just placed an order. Only cost me $33.67 for the $11.00 tank. Smile

I roughed out a couple of trial windshields using some clear styrene from some kind of packaging that I had saved.

The RMH Bipe build thread - Page 2 Bipe%20w%20motor%20013_zpsuqr7ozch

I used two yellow headed pins one coming in from either side to secure them. CA and epoxy is messy and discolors the plastic over time. A good blast of compressed air did not dislodge them.

The RMH Bipe build thread - Page 2 Bipe%20w%20motor%20018_zpsnvtzg9f0

Added the Black Widow, but I’m going to wait for the black Babe Bee tank before I fly it. At the CG with the BW it’s just a whole lot nose heavy.

The RMH Bipe build thread - Page 2 Bipe%20w%20motor%20020_zpskprfmv3z

I’m about done with this.....Waiting for all you other RMH Bipe builders to chime in with your projects.

Bob  -  you plane looks fantastic. What did you print the decals on, and how did you get them to let the base color show thru?  They sure do look nice.  Looks like you are the second one finished, Roger being the first.  I've got my kit on the bench, just need to clear out a 2 x 2 foot area to get a flat build board in place!  My son just bought his first house, so we're in the middle of moving his apartment stuff to the new house. Then I get to become Dad- the plumber, Dad- the electrician, Dad - the drywall patcher, Dad- the Roofer/ supervisor, all until the move- in is complete.  Also, gong to be Dad- the teacher....so he can learn to fix his own stuff, when I not around!
I am going to try and follow Ron Cribbs advise of just doing one thing a night ...even if it's just glueing one thing in place.... lol!

Thanks Larry and Marley.

Unintentional on lighting the smooooth wing Smile among other things I'm not a very good photographer.

Answer is to getting the yellow wing to show through the insignias - cheap printer doesn't print whites dark enough. Either that or I don’t know how to program it, probably the latter.

oh well... i think their sorting machine don't like the rigid handles... i was really only there to protect the plywood bits.

marley the decal paper is available in white or clear.  just use clear decal paper with the high quality setting for max ink.
min was printed on white paper as i wanted the white rings.

any time Bob! i'm glad they got there and happy to do it! snoopy looks good.. i think i will add the other one i sent you to the fuse of my bipe Thumbs Up

When my kits arrived from Roger, the first thing my wife said was ..."more things to sit around and not get done".  You get the picture Laughing
Soooo.. I thought I'd prove her wrong and make a start, even though I've got an existing project unfinished from about a year ago.  (Maybe she's right Shocked )

First step, trace a copy of the wings.
The RMH Bipe build thread - Page 2 100_4617
Remember, these are the "export" wings Roger did for me for the sake of simpler and cheaper shipping.
The RMH Bipe build thread - Page 2 100_4618
Then, mix up the old epoxy and stick them together.
The RMH Bipe build thread - Page 2 100_4619
I will try to find some really light fabric of some kind to wrap the centre join and epoxy in place for rigidity.

Well, that may be it for a while, but I just had to say that I made a start.  lol!

Onward and upward Rod. Smile

As you know these go together quickly, it's the preperation that takes time. I used sanding sealer on mine, three coats lightly sanding between coats, then a couple of coats of spray primer.

The lower wing is a tight fit inside the fuselage, unless you relieve it a reenforced joint there will not fit. But the fuselage itself may offer enough strength so that you may not need it.

Top wing is a different story. You may have to go to struts positioned wide enough to span the reenforcement as the provided struts are quite narrow.

Good luck with your build. Bob

yep! i made sure all the joints were close. i hate sloppy glue joints!

all the joints should bee a snug fit.
my was built with export wings and no additional strengthening. just titebond.
i like the struts running down the side of the fuse some like Bob has done. i could add a slot in the fuse doubler for a stronger glue joint.
maybee i will make a change there before cutting a new batch
