For my 1K post I'd like to.........................
Wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and happy holiday season in a free America.
Although we live in perilous times be mindful of the goodness that abounds when Americans work together for common purpose. Reach out to your family and those around you and extend to them warm and sincere expressions of your best wishes for the coming New Year.

Actually it is a lot older than that and started as a pagan winter tradition it celebrates life when times are hard hence the feast in a time where food was generally short.

Indra:
You of course are referring to the celebration of the winter soltus in Roman times which predates Christianity. And evan paegan cultures before that.
Ever been to Stonehenge?

Didn't you become a fascinated with apparent purposes of the column alignments.
I certainly did because I am fanscinated with ancient mysteries.
(My teeth are just fine, thank you and they are REAL.)

Druids were big on self-abuse but I am in no way a Druid. I much prefer the life of slothfull ease and comfort. Pain and suffering are not my "thing".

Personally, I think Druids were more into inflicting pain on others! At least if the Romans are to be believed, and that's the only records of the Druids that exist, everything else is a 19th century invention.

Yes, well of course their records are SOMEWHAT biased, since they'd just wiped the Druids out, and probably wanted to justify it, but then most early religions tended to be rather brutal and bloodthirsty!

But did not Druids immerse themselves in ice-water toughen their resolve to endure?
Now that's masochism!

Re: For my 1K post I'd like to.........................
HA! HA! If you did at all it would have been for a VERY short time. Right? Or are you some sort of Polar Bear?
Druids immersed themselves for lengthy periods according to legend.

Yeah,
I fell through the ice once while sledding across a pond. Felt like a thousand needles jamming into my skin at once. The insult to injury was the walk/run home in frozen temps.

Man!
How did you get out of the ice I would imagine when you grabbed it to clamber out it would just break and you fall back in.

Re: For my 1K post I'd like to.........................
It wasn't deep so I just walked out. Just deep enough to get soaked. My cousin fell in a river when we were out hiking in Ontario Canada. It was feb-march timeframe and the water under the ice was moving fast, his eyes were as big as saucers when the ice gave he was almost sucked under the ice, I jumped and slid across the ice on my stomach and grabbed his hand. Pulled him out with one arm scared us both pretty bad. The jerk has yet to thank me...... I even reminded him a few years back about it and still nothing.
I think we got off topic here so. Merry Christmas or happy holidays everyone!
