To Those Who Have Served Or Are Serving
Happy Veterans Day to all of our veterans, past and present and those of you who are still serving. Thank you for serving our country and protecting our freedoms. This also goes out to all who served in allied forces.
Thank You!
Re: To Those Who Have Served Or Are Serving
Here in Australia we celebrate Rememberence Day. At the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month we stop to remember the Armistice which ended WW1 and to honour those who served. I suspect your day is similar.
We have this amazing war Shrine in Melbourne.
One day a year, at exactly 11am, the sun shines through a hole in the roof and strikes the word "LOVE" on the inscription on the Stone of Rememberence. A truly solemn and powerful moment, spoiled partly by the fact that the introduction of Daylight Savings has required some trickery with mirrors.
Indeed, "Greater love hath no man than this, that one lay down his life for his friends." We truly honour them.
Rod.

This morning, the end of WW1 was celebrated in our village as in all villages of France. Everybody gathers at the town hall. Then 1 minute of silence at the monument and back to the town hall.

The armistice was signed on 11/11/18 in the rail car of Maréchal Ferdinand Foch, supreme commander of the allied forces, in the forest at Rethonde near Compiègne. The place became a monument in the early 20's. After total destruction in 1940, the area was restored after the war.
