I got Airmail today! Again

I got Airmail today! Again
Airmail, that's what my wife calls it. I got a package from Cox International with some sweet bits in it.
That's a new piston and cylinder for my Tee Dee .09, the one that had the misshapen piston. I can finally get it running now and maybe build something for it. I have 2 TD .09s, how 'bout a twin? Lol. That needle was a slick find, a fine thread 128tpi for a price I cannot disclose, but let's just say, a diamond in the rough. And check out my Cox International ball point pen. When I saw it I of course wanted it. But I also recognized the barrel as one that I've had before with an unusually good writing tube.
Now I'm waiting for my Texas Timers airmail to arrive. I've been playing with 1/2A more lately so it's time for a restock. Tubing, syringe tips, 1-way valves, all sorts of cool stuff.

Rusty: Don't you need the the spray bar too? Or did the package include them both?

Re: I got Airmail today! Again
No, HD, I actually have an old reedy backplate that has a spraybar in it. I like to keep spare needles in the flightbox too. I usually stump them so they don't get bent, but since my whole 1/2A fleet uses them, I just grab a spare when I can for either or both parts. Spraybars is what I wish I had more of. Once you adapt one to fit a Norvel venturi, it's not worth trying to undo it to fit another plane. I don't use the bathtub method(which wouldn't require sleeving) because I need a screen in mine. I have a pair of MP Jets and a Conquest that I want to outfit for bladders, so I'm on the lookout for cheap deals. There's always Texas timers.com, and they are very reasonably priced. They have a much better barb than the Coxes too. On the Cox nipple, I use extra narrow fuel tube and wrap it on with copper wire. Or wire extracted from a paper bread bag twist tie. So my engines with those Cox spraybars have a semi-permanent 2" or so piece of tube attached to them.happydad wrote:Rusty: Don't you need the the spray bar too? Or did the package include them both?

I'm going to paint my next plane to be a US Mail hauler.

Re: I got Airmail today! Again
Rusty, I was reading where you prefer the TT spray-bars over the Cox because of the better barb on the nipple. You should give the compression-sleeve/collar a try for the Cox ones. Cut and deburr a 1/4" long piece of alloy tubing that has an ID close to OD size of your silicone fuel line. Slip the collar over the line and back far enough to expose about 1/4" of line for connecting to the nipple. Connect the line and slide the collar over the now "expanded" line on the nipple. It may be necessary to use some lube to help the collar to slide on. Grip the collar (lightly..) with small needle-nose pliers to slide it over the nipple.. or in the case of a reedy horseshoe backplate's close-quarters; use tweezers. I have lots of alloy tubing.. so if you don't have the right size on hand.. I might. What's the OD size on the lines that you generally use?
I've posted this pic before.. but for different reasons. I used this method to run a larger ID line.. but the end result is still achieving a tight fit at the nipple.

Dang this thread morphed real quick
I got Air Mail today from RSM (engine drill guide, Fox 35 parts) and a few new to me old engines from a friend near Seattle , a Green head Torp, a pair of Fox 36Xs, and a Johnson R/C-- not the C/S I was looking for but still a great old skool engine for my nostalgia combat balsa planes I am building
One of these days I will start a thread on my current progress with photos

Scarinzi
50s~60 combat planes

Re: I got Airmail today! Again
getting back on track.. ahem.. Rusty, very cool concerning the .09 Tee Dee resto.. and your renewed interest in 1/2A! Has there been any progress with the church re-construction? It would be nice to have an increased area.. without having to contend with down-drafts. Maybe fly some bigger airplanes too.. without having to pack-up gear for a commute. If I had a pair of Tee Dee .09's.. I'd build my Sterling P-38 kit for them. Of course there's other twin-engine designs that would probably lend themselves better to C/L stunt.. it's just a complete unbuilt kit that I happen to have. I've got a pair of old Fox .15's.. but one needs a piston. I think you'd have fun with a twin.. no doubt it'd have two bladders on it!
Re: I got Airmail today! Again
Actually a single bladder will run (2) .049 TeeDee's just fine. I did this on a twin engine flight streak years ago. You could even start and set each engine by it's self and then when both were running they were still in tune.

Re: I got Airmail today! Again
F2D is right, a single bladder, Tee the lines off to both engines and they would run in perfect harmony. Both will shut off at exactly the same time, and no problem if one takes more time to crank and needle.faif2d wrote:Actually a single bladder will run (2) .049 TeeDee's just fine. I bet my Texas Timers airmail comes tomorrow.

Re: I got Airmail today! Again
More airmail! What an exciting week at the mailbox.
Texas Timers, Hank Nystrom is a cool dude, always expedites my orders and even calls on the phone if he has a suggestion on using the goods.
Syringe tips. I seemingly had a lifetime supply, but every time I send goodies to other forum members, I toss one in. At .$75 cents, it's a must have item for your Luer Lock or Luer Slip suringes. The line will never pop off during fueling again.
The Fourmost 1-way valves go in the tail of all my bladders for easy fueling, but they cost a bunch, $6 Bucks, so I get one at a time. 4 feet of small bladder tube will last a long time, as an inch of the stuff will hold well over an ounce of fuel, and I can get many more flights than I expected when I made my how-to videos. I'd been using one on the Li'l Satan since the Traveling Engine, up until me and Bandito went to 1/2A Day in September. We got a good laugh when I popped it.
Two more front end bladder fittings too. I like their conical shape because they prevent a bubble in the bladder from getting sucked in until the last lap or so. And they have a nice big barb to secure the bladder to it.
My next order will include some aluminum screw-on radial backplates for Tee Dee and Medallion .049s, they have them for Norvels too. And another check valve too.
Rusty.

Re: I got Airmail today! Again
They only "dumb" question is the one not asked. The red pieces fit into the end of a medical syringe. They replace the needle, by twisting into the end of the syringe. The barbed end holds on to your fuel line as you fill your tank or bladder. Watch Rusty's video on bladders:
https://www.coxengineforum.com/t3317-pressure-bladder-how-to-videos-parts-one-and-two
( It is described in part 1 at 8:39 ) but watch both videos if you have not used a bladder before.

Yes, Alejo, those come in really handy for any fueling syringe. Several brands use that type of tip.
