New Cox Aqusitions.....
Ooooh. So, I bought these online the other day. They really did look better in the pictures.... However, I bought them with the original intentions of playing with the dune buggy. But both are equally missing many pieces. So seeing as they are pretty bad overall, what should one do with whatever parts are salvagable. I know someone here what they would already be doing...... Dune buggy tires are all burnt/melted, I believe the body has a cut out of the front bottom, chassis has one crack that has been repaired. However rear axle and I believe the rims are all ok, just discolored. The rail is heated, bent, twisted, and cracked almost in half. Both engines are siezed worse than I have ever dealt with. I will probably be asking questions on dismantling the engines so I can use them on something. The recoil starter does work, just that the 'handle' is broken. Also, there is something inside me saying to try to fix the rail, but if parts would be sought after to rebuild something better, I feel that would be a better cause.

Holy crap, that engine must've had a lot of torque to bend that dragster frame up like that.
Looks like you have some projects. Maybe careful heating with a heat gun and some pressure could bend it straight. Old oil soaked plastic can be hard to fix.

Thanks. I was thinking of carefully using heat. I guess I have nothing to lose by trying. Maybe tomorrow evening I will give it a shot and post back. Yep, these little .049'so have some torque,...

Wow Chancey, I missed this one. You have courage but embrace the challenge.
Analyze, plan, execute. That's the proper way, but I usually just jump in and execute sometimes resulting in the real meaning of the word.
Try building a jig for that rail unless you have an extra set of hands available. I haven't had much luck with a heat gun even on the low setting it can destroy plastic pretty quick. Start out with a hair dryer and see what you get.
I have seen tires for the DB on ebay, but expect to pay high bucks.
Good luck and let us know how it turns out.
Edit add: I think Roddie would offer something like this.
Disassemble completely.
Get a flat board.
Long screws fore and aft at the normal bend.
Heat a little.
Turn screws a little.
Use heat.
Continue until flat.

Thanks Bob. I really like the idea of a board and screws. I will be a bit busy tonight on my other new project, but will try to give it some attention and see what happens. Thanks.

Ha, for Chancey maybe, but no way would tico………. leave his NC prison industry 1967 slammed Nova out in the sun on a hot day.
Actually, a pretty good idea though.

There's probably few , if any, hot sunny days left for the season in Oakbank, Manitoba. Might have to wait until next July.

If one wasn't that busy, I would have put it in my car the last couple days. It was just under 100f with the humidex the last couple days. From sweaters and such to needing air conditioning again. However, that spell now looks like it is over....
