Evolutionary .36

Evolutionary .36
A buck a displacement, I won this one last night for $36. One of two that he offered. The seller removed them from a I think A-26 Invader and went electric. Lost out on the twin when it went to $47. No guessing on this one, it's marked .36 in all the proper places. No flywheel either.
Curious little capped do-dad on the fuel line.

Re: Evolutionary .36
I have an evolution .60 engine in my big piper cub But never use in this plane after the crash of the previous plane in which it was installed. A plane far too small for the power of this engine After the wing broke, fold back then the plane plunged directly into the snow I must say that the power of this engine is very well matched with many other more famous brand even more efficient than many others .60 Well designed strong resilient capable of taking hits Easy to adjust carburettor mix All I can say about these engines is good I think you made a good deal

Thanks David for sharing your experience with these, I know nothing about them. Just expanding my Horizons....
The do-dad may be some sort of fuel pump or a connection to a common fuel tank on the twin. Will know more when i get it.

It looks like a fuel filler valve to fill the tank of the engine. The fuelled should have a metal barb that plugs in to fuel the tank, saving one from having to disconnect the fuel line from the engine to fill it up. Mounted nearby on the fuselage.

A possibility Chancey, but it's piped right into the NVA. Maybe just stuck on there from something connecting the twins tank or tanks.
His other one had it too. The one that got away. Maybe just a filter.

Yes the parts before adjustment of the hi jet needles It is to fill the tank with normally another nozzle to connect in it without making a leak. It attaches to the plane I use a similar one with mine I think it was part of the aircraft accessories nothing to do with the engine accessories itself Very useful with fast filling pump The kit also includes another parts for the ventilation also a cap to block the fuel port Who seems to be present in the photo

Re: Evolutionary .36
Thanks David, I'm eager to get it, but I don't have a plane to put it on that already isn't taken. A Nice R/C Navy Wildcat or Hellcat would fit as it has a large cowl to house that big lump.
I put the "a" marked engine (w/prop) back together. I think it's a .60 or .61 bored out from the .40. Case looks the same. Maybe the .36 too. We will see.

Re: Evolutionary .36
Edit add, a funny story, well probably not to others but to me.
An Evolution sparker.
I had been dealing with an ebay seller to buy one like this NIB. He had it listed for $329.00. I had looked at it but did not bid. He contacted me with an offer (ebay has a program for sellers to do this for lookers) of about $309.00. I countered with $295.00. He came back with $304.99. I declined.
This one just came up on ebay for $199,00 or $259.00 BIN. Being an old guy and told that you can't take it with you, I jumped on it.
I do this, get interested. I tried to buy every model ENYA ever offered, didn't but came close. Lot less Evo's out there so I have a chance.

Re: Evolutionary .36
Cool one its a .61 for gasoline This carburetor looks good for the smaller one I imagine That it is much smaller than a .60 The evolution prop is not very good I broke mine first landing At those times I wanted to buy one I believe that the power of the nitro made me change my mind I wanted a powerful light piper cub capable of acrobatic maneuvering This little extra battery seems a little too much to me but I think that with the same quantity of fuel it would have flown longer. less expensive than nitro fuel wit gaz

Re: Evolutionary .36
Awesome buys. I have the .36 controlline version. Haven't cranked it up yet as I built the wrong model for it, do to my own ignorance. It was so nose heavey I needed 5oz of tail weight to get in the ballpark and no room to move the engine. They look like fantastic motors.
I was bidding on a nib .36 a few weeks back but when it went above retail I stopped lol. Interesting I discovered I have some self control. Hope they run good for you.

Re: Evolutionary .36
Got the .36 today. A much smaller lump than the 40.
Some sort of a capped fuel nipple. Seems like there should be a shut-off between it and the NVA to avoid flooding if/when filling the tank. Unless closing the needle is an option?
Ron, you really ought to make some kind of a response, there are like 115 pages of positive comments in a single thread about these Evolution engines over on RC Groups. Besides, shades of the Cox Corsair engine, if I can't get it running I may just send it on to you.
And..............It ain't going away.

Well, I am now very confident to say that it is truly indeed a fuel filler valve. And even made by Dubro (possibly). See the link here below. It is slightly different from the one I personally have, but should work just fine.

I would agree Chancey, but how do you fill the tank without flooding the engine? There can't be a one-way flapper in that tiny thing, and you still have to draw fuel from the tank.

Re: Evolutionary .36
As the one you have does not have much in the way of instructions, I am still believing it is like mine in that the 'nipple' with the cap has movement in and out so that when you fill your tank, you would 'push' it in to fill. This then will block off the fuel line going to the carburetor, allowing the tank only to fill. There should be a small o-ring inside to help with that. This is a screenshot from the instructions of mine, again, which I believe would work in a similar fashion. But I have also been known to be wrong at times.....
P.S. Just mark which way the lines were hooked for future reference and trust that they were in the correct orientation when both shipped and received.

No real description, but your valve is briefly shown from 2:45 to 2:56. He just shows you how it plunges and where to oil it.

Bob,
Just enjoying you being a kid again. I am really glad you found a new passion. It’s harmless and healthy. I’ve been quiet because I don’t want to be negative. They do perform well. Everyone does seem to like them.
Not going to love the Evo.
It just reminds me of a wacked out 50’s concept car. I Love that you love it though.
Collect them all!

Now that is sure a way to put it. Never looked at them like a vintage concept car, but do see something like that in them now. Now to possibly do some research and see which ones were better power wise than the other so I can keep an eye out for the one I want in the .40 size class. But I do really like the ones with the blue anodizing personally. Maybe the reason I also like the OS La series in blue too......

Just now won this one NIB on ebay. $79.95 and i was the only bidder, should tell me something but I'm not listening.
Really though, they love these over on RC Groups. Couple of threads on them and not a negative comment other than Horizon not supporting them with parts.

It is not to speak negatively of horizon but yes the most pard of the product does not stay very long quickly in the section of the Discontinued Thing It's a shame because many of these products are good
I can find all kinds of pieces to build conversion In the past Now I find less and less of things that can use for m'y litle plane
