Glow plug will not glow

Glow plug will not glow
Cox .049 glow plug will not glow with a 3 cell D battery pack, using a cox plug clip. The clip measures 1.44 volts. The glow plug works with a cad battery igniter, measuring 1.2 volts. The glow plug is 30 years old if this matters. Any help will be nice. Thanks

Re: Glow plug will not glow
Hello. I noticed that myself the other day. I was using a kwik clip type connecter. But if I wiggled it around some I could see it try to lite up. I’m going to take my dremel wheel and shine up the areas of contact to get a better connection. Maybe that is your problem also

Re: Glow plug will not glow
Your test leads may be sharp/pointy enough to cut through dirt and tarnish on your glow clip. Your glow head fins and top "pin" may be too filthy to make good contact with the glow clip.
Ensure your glowplug is clean. You may need to wire brush between the fins of the head and the "tip." Also clean the contact surfaces of the glow clip.
Then try again.

Re: Glow plug will not glow
Scrape contact points of Cox glow clip. Also use a thick cable to supply enough current.

May even be make/break contact inside wire wire covering. Enough contact for voltage measurement but break under load.
Do you coil or wrap up your lead after use ?
