Hi Craig. Thanks for the welcome. I am loathe to open the box as it is 100% original as to it's contents. Once it's been opened there can be doubt by some as to wether it is 100% original or has something been substituted. The catch 22 being I know what should be in there but won't know exactly what's in there without openng it.

Yes I know exactly what you mean. I have a foot in each camp, the just look at them and the start them up and use them. Ones like this are good resource's for those that want to restore exactly to original. Runners are good and I never feel guilty modifying something that's plentiful and/or past it's best. The date stamp on the box end says 1994 Cox Products Inc and the catalog number is 9161. I guess that makes it no older than twenty years or less. I don't know when they finished production but it'll only get older and I like to try and pick up stuff before it gets too collectable. Cheaper and more choice. Some of the prices on early tether cars are astronomical, way out of my budget.

I Empty New Cox Shrike

Post  Bill steklenski Fri May 23, 2014 9:43 pm

Hey Dave, Greetings from the USA! That is a nice Shrike you have there. I am glad to be able to Converse with all You Guys in the Hobby, I am very Passionate about these Cox toys. I have been collecting since about 2000 and have had many of the cox Planes and cars back from 1971 to 1976 when I was younger. Back in the 1980"s and 1990"s there was a club called the "Gas Toy Collector" and they sent out little paperback monthly booklets every month with articles on the Cox, Wen mac, Testors, and Aurora gas powered toys, Anyhow, I was told that the club wrote to Cox and asked them to make another run of the Shrikes in Bright Red. Another point of interest is that the Cylinder on the last Production 049 called the "Surestart" has 2 small slits on the cylinder instead of a single narrow or wide slit for intake and exhaust. Happy Collecting, Bill

Hi Bill. Nice to hear from you. I too am a fan of Cox cars and it was while chasing parts for an O-45 engine that I came across this website. At that time I didn't have any Cox plane engines but now have twenty so being on this forum can be hazardous to your bank balance. Regards from down under. Dave
