No need thanks. I'm involved by just watching. I'm taking special interest to see if anyone can top the rpm my Mouse engine pulled last time. 24,100 is the mark to beat for tanked engines. I look forward to the challenge.

Cripes.... I'm hoping that my 30+ Y.O. G.B. crank-pin doesn't shear-off.. and it's entered in the unlimited-class.. I don't know what to expect. This is my first time entering the tach-race.
I'm really glad for Ron, the gracious sponsors.. and the rest of us; that there are enough entries to make this a worth-while "shoot-out"!!
Re: Tach Race 2017- March 11-12 FINAL RESULTS!
I have plenty of spare cranks Roddie. Don't stress.

Do you suppose more prep-time might draw more entries? I personally wouldn't mind if you held-on to my engine for a while. Will you be away from home after this scheduled race-weekend? How about an April/May date? Seems to me that you had some late-comers... and maybe more would step-up to the plate.. if they knew they had more time?
Re: Tach Race 2017- March 11-12 FINAL RESULTS!
Let's just see how this all plays out. A few engines are probably in the mail still.

Re: Tach Race 2017- March 11-12 FINAL RESULTS!
Hi guys,
I intended to participate in the Tach Race this year but got hit with unexpected medical issues. With all my visits to specialists, blood work, overnight testing and new medications my priorities changed dramatically. The race date crept up and I realized I wouldn't be able to send the engines to arrive before the race date. Hope the race is exciting and competitive, especially with those awesome prizes!
Regards,
Agustin

Thanks Eric,
Have doctors appointment today and maybe have time to visit the LHS. Found some NOS Kirn Kraft parts (fine thread needle assemblies and pressurized back plates for the .049/.051 Cox TDs.) the last time. At least I can dabble in the hobby for a moment

My engines went out via priority 2-day mail this morning. They are supposed to be there Saturday. Sorry for the delay.

Wishing you good-health, above all Agustin. The hobby "spirit" is a very positive thing with our kind of people. I believe that it's a natural form of healing for the mind. The body physically reacts to this, in a positive way.. I believe.
Sound's like you have a "diamond" in a LHS!!! There aren't many of those around any more. I'm very glad that you have one that still has some treasures!

Yes, forecast is not so hot. I can run things up in my shop however, the fluorescent lighting screws up my tach. I can open the bay door and use the outside backlight, but then it makes it kinda dull for videos/pics and stuff.

After looking at that forecast, I'm glad I added a head shim to my Parts Drawer Unlimited.

Do you have any LED light-sources Ron? They may not mess with your tach... and might provide the light you need to work with. I actually enjoy inclement-weather; when it comes to modelling-activities.. (with the exception of painting.. ) Running-up engines in the shop when it's "crappy outside" could give you a real "warm and fuzzy" feeling.. as long as you're prepared for "anything" that could foul your efforts. Maybe have back-up glow-plug clips/driver/batteries.. a generator (in case of a power-failure...) Hurricane-lanterns... a stenographer..
I'd highly recommend some quality background music.. but that's just me...

I shined an LED flashlight into my tach once, and surprisingly, it was not null. Maybe I caught some 120 cycle from an extraneous source. I'm more curious now, I'll try it with my Lowes flat panel LEDs. I love those, they'll knock your whiskers off.

Re: Tach Race 2017- March 11-12 FINAL RESULTS!
Actually LEDs do "flash" on and off. They don't have a dimming ability other than switching them on and off in a very rapid cycle. Hard to explain, but Google "PWM", it means Pulse Width Modulation, and as far as I understand that is the principle used. It is also widely used in other controller outputs.
You may try pointing a battery powered led light to a propeller, it is possible to see the strobo effect if the rpm and the frequency of your led light are suitable. The different brightness settings the light may have are actually different frequencies of the PWM control.
Also a word of warning: Be careful when working with electrical fans. A led can cause the fan blade to look like it is still, and if there is background noise (or worse still, you use headphones), you don't hear the fan noise... An ouch-moment may occur.
