Re: Cars, cars, and more cars
Ok, the statue I recognize, it’s in Bremen, Germany. I cheated a little and googled, Borgward originated in Bremen, but...

One more!!! Triumph TR3.
Not Hansaplast or Sparadrap or another make. The name Leukoplast leads to the car make, founded by a shipping company.

Re: Cars, cars, and more cars
The leukoplast hint was a dead end to me, but I did find the Bremen car finally. I was pretty sure from the beginning that it is ”circa 1965 German something or another”, so I just Google searched images with ”German cars 1965”.
Ta-da!
It’s a Lloyd Arabella, also sold as Borgward, so I was not totally lost there. Definitely not a common car around here, but the wraparound grille with the turn signal is a nice design gimmick.

Not the classic, but I bought one new in late 1958. Ranks right up there with the worst cars that I ever owned. I desperately wanted a Volkswagen but there was a months long waiting list. Used oil like i owned a well. Traded it after a couple of years for a 1953 Mercury hardtop.
Still have the handbook. Not much to it.
Lieven, those were toughies......

That's right, sold under the Borgward name in later production. Lloyd was owned by the Norddeutscher Lloyd shipping company. Their first post war car, the Lloyd 300 had a body made from wood and fabric. Owners often repaired the fabric with tape of the kind above and the cars were commonly rebaptised "Leukoplastbomber".

Re: Cars, cars, and more cars
Ah, the Mini Cooper. I recently had to work on a couple of these. Cool to look at, fun to drive, absolute disaster to work on. Ok if you have hands the size of a 10 year old. No access to anything under the hood at all. I had to virtually pull the whole front off the car to replace a radiator.
I'd stick with the MG.

It's what we do Rod. Pain and suffering, it feels so good. It's the BMW and pollution controls influences.
I used to watch the real British Mini's race around the course at Summit point and was amazed at how tossable they were. Whole new animal after BMW got ahold of them.

Re: Cars, cars, and more cars
This mini engine the one that my father has modified wit the weeber carburettor with a large filter a cooper s model with hidrolastic suspension a very efficient sistem fully adjustable with a machine designed for The ratio of the transmission was very large, it did not go backwards Not very practical for parking but this car was designed for slalom races If you have already seen a mini cooper s race you can see the rear of the car seems to drift in the curves but keep traction on all the wheels very strange to watch

Re: Cars, cars, and more cars
The Classic Mini is like a front-wheel drive go-kart
The Mini was very popular in Finland, and since ’70s there has also been a competition class called ”Mini Tonni”. ”Tonni” is Finnish for a ton or thousand, as you probably guessed. The rules in this class are quite strict. Max engine displacement is 1049cc, natural aspiration, no major body or suspension modifications are allowed, tyre sizes are restricted etc. So it is mostly about who can make the best motor, most reliable car and of course the driver probably plays the most major role.
Here’s some in-car footage from a race. The handling of the Mini is really something, especially considering the basic design of the chassis is from the late ’50s. And getting the 100+ HP out of the one litre naturally aspirated pushrod engine at 8500rpm, and not have it blow up on you... wow.

Re: Cars, cars, and more cars
The first time I saw those "breadbox" Mini's at Summit Point raceway in West Virginia I was blown away by how competitive they were. Not just competitive but often leading the pack against more streamlined competition. Kinda fell in love with them right then.
I was honored to lead the pre-race parade lap of vintage cars there once in my MGTC it being the oldest in the group. Fun but quite demanding with a bunch of hotrods behind. Lot's of hairpin turns, 90 degrees and straightaways there.

I guess it doesn't matter where the back-end of the Mini goes, as long as the front wheels are pointing where you have to go, the rear has to follow. Pretty common to see them acting like a tricycle under hard braking in a turn. I've seen the inside rear wheel 6" off the track a few times.

A couple of scary moments for the Minis, not to mention the Escort driver.
I think I may have been at this race meet.
