whats your favorite part of building?
like the title says....
mine is covering an airplane, for me it is the most time consuming part of building but is very satisfying when it is done and looks good

I like the building, cutting, fitting and sanding. I detest covering, especially with film, and have several planes in the bones.
Re: whats your favorite part of building?
Kinda odd,,but setting up the radio gear and getting the initial balancing worked out with all the heavy pieces in place

The maiden flight when something I have built climbs into the sky and flies.
Lacking this element RTF "foamies" leave me cold.

HI all,
Surviving the maiden flight
I enjoy all of it but I think on the bench I also enjoy the radio/motor installation.
Thats when it gets exciting thinking about that first flight.
Recieving goodies in the mail is fun too
I HATE REBUILDING but I have become good at it

Re: whats your favorite part of building?
I Love the whole building process until I get to the push rods and Hinges.
What I cant stand is those "hobby stores" that only sell pre built foam park fliers. That being said, I do love my PZ UM P-51, great for learning on.
I also love the flying part to... XP

Re: Whats Your Favourite Part Of Building
At one time I would have said all of it, especially when you
discover a really great design that you just have to build.
I was always terrible at painting and still don't have that
artistic taste when it comes to which colors to use.
Admired a guys model one time, not the usual primary
colors most of us use. He told me his wife chose the
color scheme, as you guys say, go figure!!
Anyhow got myself a couple of Airbrushes, Paasche for
the finish and a cheap Badger for fuel proofing.
At first I struggled a bit but the Paasche was so expensive
I just had to persevere. It seemed to come all at once,
not an expert YET!! but the best bit now is setting up
the airbrush. John

Opening the box for the first time!
Followed by reading the instructions......... Actually building is very calming for me and I get so focused while doing it that hours go by and it feels like minutes.

Hey,
Mine is putting it on the charger in prep for the maiden flight.
I love a good maiden flight also but if your "flying" it the "building" is over ;-)

This thing was a severely 'Kit-Bashed' Midwest "Strikemaster" I built in the 1980's. One of my favorite, all-time fighters is the F-8 Crusader, and the plane sports a scheme from one I found in a book. The Harrier resemblance is purely coincidental...I went with the tandem gear at the time to get around the challenge of body-mounted retractable tricycle gear.
I called it my "J.C. Whitney Airplane" because I'd loaded it with every goofy gadget that I could get my hands on at the time. The main gear is a Goldberg Mechanical Nose gear retract unit...the tail wheel is a Robart unit. It had Robart bomb drops in the wing, a "D Size" rocket tube in the tail, and channels in the wings for winging to launch wing-tip rockets
My real claim to fame with it was that there was not a decal on the thing. All of the markings are Aerogloss dope, with the exception of the pilot, who was detailed with Testors Enamel paint.

Wow, that's quite a job of detailing, it looks just like decals. Now I can see, the overhead view does not resemble a Harrier.
