Another Question?.

Another Question?.
Hi all. Happy Easter. On getting my PeeWee ready to go in my plane, I saw it had a considerable amount of end float. Between the drive plate/crankcase interface. we are talking 15 Thou. As I plan to use an 1/2A electric start. Would it be worth using some brass shim to reduce play and engine wear?

Re: Another Question?.
I would not worry about it. The gap you're talking about is small and I have use starters countless times without any issues.

Thanks, I'm mechanical engineer, so it goes against my instinct to leave it

Re: Another Question?.
I would install a shim if I was to use starter. If not you will chew up the crankcase. Another problem is if you spin engine over when the engime is flooded you can bend the rod if it hydraulic locks.
I have not experienced this myself as I always hand start, but have heard the warnings of many.
The Pee Wee is easy to start by hand.

I wouldn't put an electric starter on the peewees, it's just asking for trouble, they are easy to start by hand or you can use a spring starter if needed.
