Need advice
[img][/img]
Just received a used motor for my Nissan GTP and after taking the damaged parts off I still need to get the flywheel of so I can replace the front plastic motor mount. I need to know what is the right way to remove the flywheel?? Is there a trick to it?? Right now most of the motor parts are soaking in Alcohol to get them freed up a bit. Can someone help?
Thanks,
Alex

Re: Need advice
The flywheel is probably pressed on like it is on an airplane engine. So lay the back of the crankcase on a hard flat surface, screw a 5-40 stud or screw all the way into the nose of the crankshaft, and whack it with a hammer. I have a brass bar I use as a drift between the hammer and the stud. It should come right out. Use a screw and washers or a propeller to press it back together. It's probably splined, so take care to get it straight back into the grooves.

You're welcome. I was adding one more sentence as you were posting, so re-read it and make sure you see my last note.
Let us know how it goes. And you might want to wait for one of the car guys to answer too. I'm just an airplane engine guy.
Welcome to CEF.

Re: Need advice
This is part of the instructions sheets:
The way the flywheel is mounted is different from the Jerobee or the Gassers. The crank end seems to be straight and splined as Rusty suggested. Have a look at this thread. It shows a picture of the crankshaft on p3. It also shows a prop washer but I don't know if this is also mounted (not according to the drawing). It is on the Cox Gassers.

Maybe Coxaddicted or Happydad can give you a more precise answer or you can send them a pm.
