ebay Cox engine detour
For the first time in months I went ebay shopping for Cox engines but wound up with this:
I have several Rogers engines and this will be a nice addition. $22 make offer, I offered $17 and they took it. I have several NVA's that will fit.
I did find this oddity though.

Edit add:
Ok so I took a chance. Enya V twin for $22.88 w/free shipping. 0 feedback China. I have seen these go for $750 + but my hopes are not high.

Re: ebay Cox engine detour
Bob.
If the Enya turns out to be legit then you scored excellently well.
Regarding the Testors "oddity", I assume you mean the "left hand rodation". The engine looks very typical. I have several. Can't say I've ever come across a left hand Testors starter, which is the only thing that will define the direction of rotation. Typical of reed valve engines, this should run fine clockwise as well as the regular direction, apart from the starter. It would be easy to reverse the starter spring, intentionally or by mistake, although the one-way clutch would pose a problem.
Rod.

Hi Rod, It wasn't the engine but the headline "Cox engine with a red radial mount" that got me.
I suspect he got his pictures mixed up as he does have a Cox engine with a red radial mount for sale too.
No way that Enya twin is legitimate, I suspect I will hear nothing from them, but ebay backs up their sales so I took a chance.

Based in China, mel3479_3 has been an eBay member since Oct 29, 2017
Typically I only buy items that have multiple photos if it is of great value.
I bought an item once from a person who canceled there account after receiving the money.
About 14 days after the purchase. Contacted eBay and they refunded my cash.

Re: ebay Cox engine detour
Sorry Bob, I missed the "Cox" thing in the title. I was too busy trying to figure out the uniqueness of the Testors engine shown. That probably also means that my left-hand theory was just rubbish as well. Maybe the actual Cox engine has a left hand starter.
Regarding the Enya, well it doesn't look good

Yes, I was caught up in the moment Rod and feel a little embarrassed about it. I tried to stop payment by Paypal but was too late. I hate contributing to this fraud and be a part of rewarding the perps.
Checking around ebay, there are some very nice Cox and Enya engines for sale right now.

Re: ebay Cox engine detour
I sympathize Tee Bee...........Have you seen my display cases.
Some have been moved around a bit since these pictures were taken but you get the idea. Run while you still can, I'm beyond hope.
Most were bought within a two year period after I joined this forum. I have given away a few but never have sold any.
And Rod, I stopped ebay looking after I got suckered in on that Enya V Twin deal. A bridge to far for me, but I thought I would dangle the prospect for the rest of you.

Bravo!! Nice display, seems like I remember you started with a stick on the wall with some engines screwed on to it.

Re: ebay Cox engine detour
Wowzers! Nice collection. I don't have room for a display like that(not if I want to stay married, anyway) so I mostly buy engines that I convince myself will actually be ran and flown some day. Of course it's unlikely that I'll actually live long enough to use them all. Ebay has been both my nemesis and my friend. It has given me the resource to find those elusive parts to keep some of my old favorites running but also distracts me with ads for shiny "new" engines that I fall prey to. I sometimes go a year or so without even looking on there, but this year I've spent many hundreds on Cox parts and engines I was never shopping for in the first place. My wife recently bought a new designer purse and felt guilty afterward, confessing apologetically to me how much it had cost. I never flinched. If she only knew!
On a related note, I was tickled to "win" a NOS TD .09 piston/cylinder set last night after recently breaking a conrod on one of my runners. How would I have ever scored that otherwise?

Re: ebay Cox engine detour
I share with you the feeling, attraction and taste for the engines, I agree with Tee Bee, I always think that I will make this or that model to use that engine ... and time wins me, this year I have armed more than 9 models r / c Now I'm in a pause, thinking about what other project I'm joining.
I also think about enjoying the engines by running on a test bench and enjoy watching them work, that is, one way or another listening to them work makes me smile and generates well-being ...

I forgot to mention how nice your collection is. The polished TD on the stand is marvelous. I love the blister packs too, especially the two part early editions.
Great find too Mauricio on the Medallion .09.

Got my notice from ebay this morning that the Enya twin had been "removed" and gave me directions to obtain a refund.
Has me lusting for an Enya VT-240 though. Got Bobby Brooks on a search.

Ive reported at least 2 dozen fraud listings to eBay and they are removed, always same MO. They are targeting the things we like.

Re: ebay Cox engine detour
I do not ever try to sell on the Bay...too many hoops, too many fees...
BUT I do appreciate all they have done over the years to protect buyers... just not sure why they do not do a better job protecting legit sellers... the real bread n butter of the business
Funny as kid we wore out Sears, JC penny, and Woolworth catalogs and succumbed to a lot of comic book ads...
Then we started getting Big Box stores that a shopping nut could spend days in and not see every-thing
Now Wally World has decided to give Amazon a run for the bucks and Google is in the mix too
This black Friday and the following Cyber Monday is reported to set all time records for transactions and bucks spent
I will be doing my part
Hummm need to set up a Go Fund Me Account... PTSD vet in need of funds to support life saving model airplane hobby...
Yes Virginia...that was in very poor taste...but still funny

Right on the listing page on the right side is a "report item" just click that and answer a few questions and done.

Re: ebay Cox engine detour
ebay refunded my total expenditure of $22 and change to my paypal account without question. Hooray, I now have money burning in my paypal pocket. Another engine perhaps.
I did get the Rogers .29 engine though, not to bad if you disregard the plier marks. Trying something new. Instead of an AF boil I'm using carburetor cleaner, works great on carburetors and should work well on this engine with similar metals. The container has a handy basket so you don't have to fish for parts. Rod probably has something like it.
