Ron's .15 Cox Drum Valve post reminded me of this rather nice W-196 that I lost out on last week.
I made my usual one-time proxy bid which held for four days while others chipped away at it. One bidder in particular nibbled it up to around $454, then $484 at the last minute. Then at the last second must have thrown a max bid at it and won it for $638.00 shipped. Blew right past the $500 mark. That's ok. I'm sorry I lost out on it but happy that I don't have to write that check.
The seller is curious, located in Great Mills Maryland a town I lived in for years, listed it to end at midnight East coast time. Timed probably to end at optimum West coast time for max exposure.
Also the car was sold stripped. No tether, tether cable, box, or driver. I contacted him and he responded that he did have the plastic tether and driver but was going to list them later. What?

They didn't get to part out all of them Eric.
I call this my Cox Mercedes salvage yard. All but one will be restored. One will be a runner maybe May 1.
