I’ve done it! I’ve done the Impossible
Well, okay. Maybe just the improbable…
After we’ve been talking about refitting fine needles the past couple of days, I came across an unfinished pipe bomb conversion, and thought “why not?” So I pressed out the Testors NVA from the modified pipe bomb backplate and pressed in a spare 128 TPI Cox NVA I had in a bin. I swapped this backplate out for the one I had in my Pipe Bomb Special engine: https://www.coxengineforum.com/t9945-im-so-weak#126033
The engine starts pretty easily and runs at about 14,700 RPM. I’ve run this engine on a tank, a balloon, and now bladder. 14.7K is all this engine will do on a Cox 5x3 rubber ducky. But that’s plenty for just simple sport flying on this plane that only weighs 5 ½ ounces.
