Happy You’re Welcome

Eric, inside those little tins should be the correct diameter ignitor wire (fuse) . I am sure you watched the YouTube video of how to scrape the shellac off the pellets, turn the wire into a coil and bend a u shape, then cut a straight piece to stick in the hole in the back to lite and ignite the pellet. Those were the same instructions given to me by the gentleman at the swap show I got those from. I was looking for stuff I don’t have and saw that package and knew you’d have fun with them!
Oh, he reminded me not to touch the engine after a flight, it would be HOT!
Really? Yeah, pick it up by the wings, not the motor!

I kept your return addresss from the sliding muffler throttle you sent me a while back.
Just jumping in on the play it forward band wagon..Thanks CEF!

That is awesome. Now you can get her ready for flight. Has anyone ever toyes with the idea of something else that would fit and work? Not even sure it is doable as I do not have, nor have I ever had one myself. Just a curiosity question. Just thinking a rocket boy may have toyed with the idea.

Eric,

You might try some way to tether the Jetex engine to the airplane!

I flew a similar airplane with a Jetex engine mounted underneath (P80/T33?). The engine was pushed back almost out of the spring clip, as it slid along the ground (or grass) during landings.

Wish I'd known about that simple wick-trick back in the day, as my successful flights were probably less than half my actual launch attempts!

I recall my brother, with his Jetex, trying to get the wick fitting correctly. I'm sure he followed the original instructions which used one piece if wick to coil against the fuel pellet and out the back, rather than poking in an extra piece which is lit, as in the videos. I'm guessing that the wire from the wick kept the hole blocked as it couldn't eject it. I'm not sure I ever remember seeing a successful flight. I have fuel pellets left but sold the motor a couple of years back. I opted not to send them with the motor because some airport bomb sniffer dog might cause an airport shutdown. As it was the motor was well scrubbed clean and sealed to prevent any odour detection. Got through scanning no problems, but the pellets would have been pushing it.

Eric, my only concern with the plane you chose is that I think you're gonna burn yourself trying to launch it, unless you grab it from above.

Rod.

Chancy these motors have been used on cars, boats, planes .. George i have the same feeling about burning myself, But i want something that is an easy/fast build to start with. If anyone has a better suggestion i am willing to look at it Very Happy O Bill i hope to get some fun flights, i use to fly alot of the cheap gliders as a kid , i even thought about a Glider from the Hobby Lobby and modify a mount for a motor ? Huh...

I had a Jetex as a kid. It never fired up. Very disappointed kid, after making a plane for it. After reading this thread, I guess I should have scraped the pellet first. I have been toying with the idea of using bottle rockets for a little hand launch glider. They do have a bang at the end of the flight which would either blow up the plane or release the rocket from the plane?
