1960's "Eldon" toy catamaran
F4 (Juan's) Enterprise Catamaran Cruiser build thread brings back memories of a nice toy boat that I had as a youngster. A toy yes.. but it was also a functional (free-sail) scale-model who's twin-rudders were linked by a crossbar/tiller which was tied to the mainsail-boom.
Mine was the same orange-color deck as the one in the photos. The 1970's version is all-white w/red sails.
Both versions were named "Miss Waikiki"

Roddie, any kind of plans for a small runabout for a .049? I have the setup and would love to put it into something.

Ken,
I'm not trying to hijack your conversation with Roddie, however how about some of the runabout models available at times on the auction site? They are manufacturer models with the standard .049 inboard set up, such as these two classic Chris Craft runabout models. The last two pictures of the Riviera was partially completed by another modeler.

Those are just damn cool models. I love them in full size and in model form. I attended the Rhinebeck Museum a few years back and there was a mahogany boat present with a V-12 mounted in it. The boat was recently restored and it was beautiful, I can only imagine the work and effort that went into restoring it. As a carpenter by trade, I truly admire the fit and finish of the wood boats.

Growing up in WI on a small chain of lakes during the late 50's and early 60's truly inculcated a love for wooden boats. I will always admire the fit and finish and thrill of mahogany boats.
Now back to Roddie's topic.

No worries gents! Ken, when you say that you have the set-up for a 1/2A runabout.. what exactly do you have? I can picture the Allyn "Sea Fury"/Atwood outboard-engines.. and then I can also picture the the Sterling (and later Dumas) drives designed to use the model-airplane glow-engines of the day.. which utilized a shaft or cable-drive.
CEF member Bill Stelenski was in touch with a fellow nearby to me, that had built some 1/2A marine/outboard/glow engines. I've lost touch with Bill Stelenski.. (hence my mobile-phone contacts melt-down) but I've been wanting to reconnect.. particularly regarding the model-marine engines that he was building. I'll see if I can reconnect.. and will report back.

Re: 1960's "Eldon" toy catamaran
Roddie, I have the inboard setup similar to the one Dr. Cox provided with the OK engine. As for Bill, I have somewhat lost contact with him as well. He would call and we would be on the phone for 2 hours. Unfortunately, he called many times and I wasn't home to return the call and he stopped. I have a bad habit of not retaining numbers too. I will get a picture of what I have, I know it's missing the portion that attaches to the hull to support the shaft.

If you can't source the strut, then let me know.
