Ageing is not for wimps
I posted this over on the Model Train Forum's "Union Station" the equivalent of our "Off-topic" and thought I would share it here.
My daughter-in-laws grandfather turns 92 shortly and is the blueprint for a typical old southern gentleman, tall, spry, with a wry sense of humor. For his age he is in good health but he can't feel his feet therefor he stumbles around a bit. Circulation problems I would think.
Last month he fell and broke his face requiring stiches. Last week he fell again cracking a couple of ribs. Doc's bound him up and sent him home. Didn't slow him down. Over his lifespan he has faced fortune and misfortune yet he endures. Last year he lost his wife to lung cancer.
I can see him in a couple of years pumping his fist in the air and yelling - World I have taken the best and the worst that you have to offer and I'm still around!
Go for it granddad!

Friend that is wonderful.
Being health conscious is smart, being time conscious is almost smarter still. Health often does not depend directly on us, as well as how to take advantage of time ... it is beautiful to be aware of our own existence and how fragile we are, one day you realize and many years have passed already ... ..one day you want to return and relive many beautiful things .... your very existence is a true miracle ..... whatever it may be, when it happens, I also hope, in addition to other wishes, to meet many of you.

What a story, what a life, Bob. Hats off to him.
The numbness in his feet may be neuropathy.
Usually caused by cancer treatment, surgery
or anything that will cause nerve damage. I've
hade it since I had my 5 lumbar fused. Runs
the gamut from numbness to shooting pain and
everything in between, but there are people in
worse shape than us.

Sorry to hear that Bob, but thinking back, I think my son did mention that it was nerve damage. Seems to be the consensus over on the MTF too.

I'd love to reach that age and remain as agile and active as that gentleman, Bob. He is lucky to have inherited those superb genes, never ceasing to pump the stamina into him.

Setting the story straight.
From my daughter-in-law by email:
Love it dad. Thanks for sharing my grandad with people! For the record, he’s actually almost 94, born in 1927, 10 yrs before you. And the neuropathy is from Diabetes.
So much for me getting the facts right.

Re: Ageing is not for wimps
My dad; Roger/Roddie Sr. is your age Robert. My dad suffers from diabetic neuropathy. Just a year or two ago while driving his car; he caused an accident to happen. No one was seriously injured but dad couldn't rely on his feet any more, to operate the brake-pedal of a motor vehicle. That's been hard on him.. though he'd never complain to me about it. I've got some issues of my own, that I'm trying to deal with.. but I'm really thankful for this forum.. and all of my friends here.
Re: Ageing is not for wimps
Ohh boy, Roddie. Driving is a challenge with neuropathy. I stepped on the
brake once, and was actually hitting the gas at the same time. You'd be
surprised how different it is to do things with numb feet. Scared the
err, it scared me. Some days feel normal, others, you gotta pay attention.
It depresses me sometimes, but I'm mostly glad to be alive, with my friends,
and looking forward to tomorrow.

That is a good sense of humor, Kari, thanks for posting. Considering the manliness of Bob's daughter-in-law's grandfather, here is another:

Since the aged scan is not totally clear and some of us old foggies
can't read small print,
here is the text of the report:

Since the aged scan is not totally clear and some of us old foggies

Newspaper Article wrote:Orville Smith, a store manager for Best Buy in Augusta, Ga., told police he observed a male customer, later identified as Tyrone Jackson of Augusta, on surveillance cameras putting a laptop computer under his jacket. When confronted the man became irate, knocked down an employee, drew a knife and ran for the door.
Outside the sidewalk were four Marines collecting toys for the Toys for Tots program. Smith said the Marines stopped the man, but he stabbed one of the Marines, Cpl. Phillip Duggan, in the back; the injury did not appear to be severe.
After Police and an ambulance arrived at the scene Cpl. Duggan was transported for treatment.
"The subject was also transported to the local hospital with two broken arms, a broken ankle, a broken leg, several missing teeth, possible broken ribs, multiple contusions, assorted lacerations, a broken nose and a broken jaw...injuries he sustained when he slipped and fell off the curb after stabbing the Marine," according to a police report.

So nicely put Mauricio and I have been meaning to acknowledge that.
And roddie, I'm thankful for this forum too, about my only exposure to the outside world in these eventful Covid-19 days. I'm also thankful that at 83 I require no medications, ride an ATV, and can still chain-saw a tree when need be.
And..........I always thought the best way to go would be to shot by a jealous husband of a 27 year old beauty.

Yup. Although I have already decided that after sixty, a ”fit redhead half my age” will do
