Cox mi 049's engine enquirey
Every time I call in on here I learn something new, even if I am an old dog, woof woof,
As said I have acquired 4 Cox 049 engines today and they are all different, each one now freed off but in need of a good clean.
Does the 049 have a lubrication goove or channel in the crankcase main bearing, which means the prop hub and cylinder barrel has to come off to get the crank out to make sure the groove is clean and not gunged up,
and,
is there any thread lock involved with the cylinder barrel and crankcase threads please ?
The prop hub extractor, the bolt or screw to "draw off" the splined hub from the crankshaft, does that have a pin end that passes the prop screw thread and butts up against the bottom of the prop screw hole in the he crank, or is a dummy prop screw screwed into the threaded hole and the extractor screw press on that, to draw off the hub.
I know the extractor "claw" holds onto the back of the prop hub ?
I cannot see the tool on dens or other suppliers well enough to be certain.
I know about the cylinder barrel specs section, is there a similar section for glow heads and rear crankcase "covers/ carbs" please ?
Are the cylinder barrel numbers always located between exhaust ports or are they located anywhere below the exhaust ports ?
The engines I have may of course be complete mishmash of parts, I have no history of them at all.
Thanks for your help, particularly about the crank main bearing lub channel.

Fledgling
I have just had another look in Dens and it seems the crank is tapped thru the prop hub via a stud that screws into the crank.
Refitting hub is similar using a stud and nut effectively.
But, is there a link groove in the crank case. I see that the crank is "waisted"....but cannot see the new crank case main bearing hole ...
I assume there is a groove for lunch, from memory the td09 had one and I seem to remember other engine having them as well ?
A definately would be good, anyone know please ?

David's picture is a help. He's a bit difficult to understand but I work at it and I can get through what he's trying to convey. I used to do it exactly as he shows. The problem with the stock prop screw is that it's dead soft and can bend. I now use a allen socket head 5-40 screw and I place the case in a vise and it offers a very controlled push. I also use my drill press as a small arbor press. When I place the case in my vise, I pad the rear of the case with a piece of ply so that it doesn't get damaged.
When I remove a TD body, I heat it a bit and then I just back the collet nut off and it jacks the drive washer right off of the shaft. When I reinstall, I use the same 5-40 screw but I have a nut on it with a washer. I screw the allen into the shaft, hold it with a allen key and use the nut to push the drive washer squarely back onto the shaft.

Merci beacue thanks very much I get the idea. Can he take a photo of the cost and hole in the Crank case to show if there is a lube channel/groove in it, from memory I think the TD09 does but I have never take an 049 completely apart...do they fill up with hungry castor in the wasted part of the Crank, I think they probably do.
Would a good soak in method dissolve it, probably not ?
Merci, thanks...

Yes there is a lube channel and taking it apart is the very best way to get it cleaned , you can use a Qtip after a soak in what every cleaner ur using. This will also let ur engine run up to higher rpms freely .

Ok, strip down one at a time it is.
I was thinking of using a small wood toothpick but solvent a cotton bud makes sense.
Just hope I can get the cylinders off all ok.
Tomorrow evening's bag of sweets...
Thanks.
