Like to see a photo of the engines that need to be rebuilt as to their condition?
Do you want runners or show pieces?
Fun fliers or competition engines?

Re: rebuild .cox .049s for hire
i'll try to get some pix.
I emailed Matt, and understand he may be busy w new kiddo - havent heard back
7 motors, all together, just cant get them to run
looking for runners, not show -- I'm playing with vintage FF balsa - not competition, just ' hey, i used to fly these when I was a kid"
I can rebuild a '67 Norton motorcycle and have it running like a top, so its fustrating I'm missing something with these motors....
Pay? I have NO IDEA what a good going rate is.

Re: rebuild .cox .049s for hire
strange question but how do you try this engine it seems to be in very good condition shouldn't have to repair anything other than probably change the glow plug mabe new valves What type of fuel is used for the start test gaz nitro diesel? Alcools A cox engine with compression a glow plug that ignites must start easily the most easy wit starter spring Here is the time that you lack to do it well but with a few minutes a new engine is assembled I do not understand ??? First try wit new nitro fuel new batry new glow plug it has To work put drop of fuel in cylinder than flip the prop 2 or 3 time than place glow clip than start engine open the neadle valve 3 1\2 turn To 4 than once its run lean its mix

Re: rebuild .cox .049s for hire
If all seven engines are clean and complete, plus they "seem" to be in good condition, the same problem may be common to them all. I would suggest the most likely issue has to be either fuel or starter battery since these would be common to all seven.

Maybe a group effort might be in order. The whole
lot might be a little time consuming for one person.
That being said(I hate that expression), because I
just said it, I'll commit to overhauling 2 engines. Your
choice. I'll PM the "terms and conditions"

Looking at the picture you posted they all appear to be very clean and oiled. I am going to lean on what Rod said. Why not just pick one and post your procedures on starting? We can work through the one and the rest will be a cinch.

Re: rebuild .cox .049s for hire
Thank you team. I have successfully got 1 motor back to life. (Not out of the 7)
My goal is running, fun fly, not contest, not beauty queen, just something to slap in the front of the Clem’s “Country Boy” kit I’m building, or similar old timer 1/2A kits I’ll be getting to
I disassembelled, vat dipped to remove all crud, reassembled with after run as my assembly lube
I replaced reeds w new Mylar, fresh gaskets. (The Bernie & team Cox Intl)
I’m running on Very fresh bottle of Sig champion 25%
Using the old 2 D battery box to glow clip w fresh energizer batteries
On a test stand , needle all the way in then back out 3 turns
And I have a successful runner - https://youtu.be/Of2vuVchkG4
I think there has been an interesting offer in PM. That will get me headed in the right direction.

Re: rebuild .cox .049s for hire
For giggles, this is a 1967 Norton P11 Ranger 750, That’s had a bit of work done to it .
All interior motor parts have been ceramic coated to either hold or disperse oil as needed, ported heads, Mikuni carb conversion, exterior motor also coated to disperse heat, electronic ignition, 35mm front end, silly stupid fast and fun
https://youtu.be/ebaMRrug-r4
Yet I a, baffled by an .049, which I used to rebuild on scrap of plywood sitting in the backyard with poor quality tools, spit and gumption
It tells me I am missing something or overthinking something
(And yes, I tightened the exhaust clamps, and glued the rear fender piping back in place. Have mounted a better oil vent catch bottle, etc. etc since the video 🤪)

Re: rebuild .cox .049s for hire
Just a quick little observation if I may. You say they were cleaned and reassembled with new gaskets and such. When cleaning, did you in fact 'clean/clear' the holes in the needle spraybar? They may be plugged with old castor, as I have also cleaned an engine before but still had a tiny blockage in the spraybar.
And also I noticed the engines in question. With the exception of the one with the red plastic tank, I believe use the standard old 'circlip' to hold the reed in place. Any chance that you had mistakenly installed the circlip in backwards (as it goes in in one direction only for proper running), thus not allowing the reed to 'float' properly, and in turn, not run?
