Dune Buggy Find

Re: Dune Buggy Find
Generally the tires are shot with flat spots and appear to look like molten goo. I see some flat spot issues in yours but overall, I've seen much worse. The metal carrier is missing but these show up on EBAY with regular frequency. Your chassis is of the newer style plastic. The older versions were smooth harder plastic which generally cracks behind or directly at the strengthening rib where the wheels ratchet. I grew up with this stuff and personally loved it. I had mine out last year and it won the attention of some neighborhood kids for about 2 minutes. They were very disappointed it only went as fast as it did. It has two speeds, slow and slower.

Re: Dune Buggy Find
It’s been forever since I had one of these but there are either two or four screws accessed from the bottom… Remove those and the aluminum cradle should slide up in channels where it mates to the plastic pan…. That might get you started….. Mine broke in that channel and I finally threw away the car…. Wished I had known better…. Was still a kid …. I did save the engine though…. Good luck with your project.

Re: Dune Buggy Find
Nice find, and they are always fun to restore and run.
About every Christmas I bought my son a Cox product, Sandblaster, Dune buggy, I have forgotten about most of them. When he went in the Navy I threw all of them out. Mostly battered as I remember, still he's not happy about it and reminds me of his discomfort frequently.
The one I wished I kept was his Cox Trike for several reasons.
