I believe the previous owner may have anodized these common hex head prop drive plates black?
These were used on later production reedies like Surestart with the self engaging spring starters.

original cox production part?
Since there are more of these "out there" that would imply these where made by cox.
As far as i can recall these parts where part of a batch of parts i bought over 15 years ago.
That would imply there might have been a engine design that never came to be before cox quit making engines.
