Garage Sale Finds......
This past Sunday my dad called and asked if I wanted to go to a local community garage sale, to which believe it or not, I said no. Then he said ok, and he was going. I said to have fun going with mom, to which he said she was not going. So I opted in to going with him then. We arrived and went inside. did my quick walk through the small community center and right up front and center at teh end of my loop, I saw a toy helicopter, one of the cheap offshore ones sold in malls. Nope, not interested and it was still 72 mHz anyways. Then I thought I saw something under a bunch of other stuff. Curiosity peaked and I prevailed. It was a Parkzone Vapor. Appeared in really good shape, with the exception of a small section of the 'covering' coming off the rudder, and a small spot on the elevator. Nice, but now how much did he want for it? Before I could ask, I unearthed another box. A Parkzone Ember. Now teh debate was on. Which did I want? Despite teh boxes both seeing better days, and I really mean that, the planes both looked immaculate. He proceded to tell me they were both brand new and unflown. Well, even the 8 AA batteries were still in the factory packaging. Both lipo batteries were in plastic bags taped to the styrofoam in the bottoms, as well as the Ember's landing gear.
Now was showtime...... He saw I was interested, so he asked if I was. I decided I wanted the Vapor. He said to make an offer, to which I hate doing. Well, he asked so I replied. First thing that shot out of my mouth was $20. He looked at me and then said for both. Again, he asked... I replied yep! He looked at me and didn't say anything. I was still going to stick to the $20 offer for the Vapor alone. He said he didn't want to take them home, so accepted my offer! Yay me. Now I got two cute little calm outdoor fliers to add to my Champ and Cub!

Re: Garage Sale Finds......
I flew my Vapor inside my double garage on a new years eve just to bring in/leave the new year flying. Too bad our club does not rent the gym any more, I think I did more air time with those little leckies than with the glow stuff. Enjoy them.

Re: Garage Sale Finds......
Thanks all.
Eric, i was definately glad I went after the score. Plus the bonus time together. Air here sounds like what you describe as well. Mornings are out for me for the same reason as I am not a morning person either. My time off I sleep in as I am up daily at 5:30 to go to work. Evenings are generally calm, but also prime time for mosquitoes! But I can get them up early in the season before they make their presence!
aspeed, I tried in my basement, but was still too small unfortunately. A quick takeoff, throttle cut, 'crash land', was all I was able to do. Also, I only have a single car garage, and may be tight, but will also try this weekend!
rsv1cox, thank you. They truly did get a good home!

Re: Garage Sale Finds......
Hi New222,
My friend was getting out of the hobby.
Gave me an Ember, newish in box.
I thought it was just a cheap toy.
Then, I flew it.
Somehow, I am a early morning person now.
Got 4 batteries, fly for 1/2hr, before the sun/wind comes up.
Got others,
I have flown the 'Ember', way more than other heavier planes in recent years.
Try it.
I have flown through clouds of 'gnats' and mosquitoes...
It is worth it,
Take care,
Have fun,
Dave

Well Dave. As you may know if you are a member of MAAC, I think I will personally be flying a lot more of these smaller birds......

Re: Garage Sale Finds......
Hi NEW222,
Any calm morning here,
I can fly my Ember through 4X6min batteries. Half an hour.
Then a slight breeze usually shows up,
I land.
The local electric under 250g is a challenge.
I am making progress here.
Most people I meet have never heard a Cox engine run...
They have no problems, yet...
When MAAC sorts things out,
I will be the first one to CD the next Scale Combat Match.
(we were under 400ft in the 'Combat Box' )
Hope you are well,
Take care,
Have fun,
Dave

Re: Garage Sale Finds......
Hi getback,
The 'indoor' planes like the Ember have a range of ~100ft. They shut down further than that.
Yelling profanities and waving the Tx around does not help !
Slightest whiff of wind, grounds them. (or trees them)
The just under 250g stuff is better, relatively.
I learned the beauty of the dawn,
After too many all night'rs...
Take care,
Have fun,
Dave
P.S. If you are talking mosquitoes, I hear in Manitoba, they have 2ft wingspans...

Re: Garage Sale Finds......
Two feet is a baby. Lol. Here in Manitoba, they are our provinces national bird..... At home here just east of Winnipeg is manageable. However, head to the cottage and good luck! Even 99% deet bug spray I use does not stop them anymore. There are just so many. Good exercise though flying my Champ at the lake in the evening cause you gotta stay constantly moving while flying to avoid a complete blood transfusion..........
Bad enough here that the have a statue celebrating those beasts just under an hour from my location.....
