TAPLIN TWIN 7ccm
Good day everybody,
I'm Michael from Germany. I am 64 years old and have been working with model diesel engines since my youth, especially Taifun engines, which I restore and anodize myself.
I am also building a Webra 4 cylinder inline engine which you can see on You Tube.
I ride and love English motorcycles. BSA B33 1951 and TRITON Pre Unit 1956.
My question:
I am currently restoring a TAPLIN TWIN 7cc boat engine.
What thread size is used in this motor? Maybe some experts can help me.
Best regards
Michael

Re: TAPLIN TWIN 7ccm
Hello Michael,
welcome to COX Engine Forum.. (I am also 64 and from Hungary, and while I am a COX engine fan, back in my youth I also ran small diesels of Hungarian MOKI and similar. Plus I also ride a small Honda MSX 125 nowadays...so you will understand this is an international young-boy site )
I have no information about the thread sizes you ask, but you may be interested in reading this article of Spectreflight, about the engine you are working on:
http://www.sceptreflight.com/Model%20Engine%20Tests/Taplin%20Twin%207cc.html
I trust this helps, regards András from Budapest.

Re: TAPLIN TWIN 7ccm
Good day to all model engine enthusiasts,
Attached are photos of my restored TAIFUN engines, KRATMO 10, Felgiebel Boxer 2 x 7.5 cc, which I built myself. Then the WEBRA 4 cylinder, 4 x 6.5 cc, with two 180° rotary valves, is running very well at the moment. The first run can be seen on YOUTUBE. Enter Webra 4 cylinders, or Webra 120.
More pictures will follow.
Best regards
Michael

Twin
Hi Michael,
Lovely.....
You probably make your own screws etc. But may not know of "model fixings" a mail order supplier.
I will post later the exact web address later.
Please would you post a you tube link for your engine please.

Re: TAPLIN TWIN 7ccm
Hello,
Attached is a photo of the disassembled Taplin Twin, everything looks good and usable, the pistons have good compression. The main crankshaft does not need to be disassembled as the bearings run freely and easily. The front bearing and the cylinder head screws need to be replaced, I will make them new. a good solid basis to bring the legendary engine back to life.
I'll post reports about the restoration, it'll just take a while because I'm working on a lot of other projects.
Many greetings, Michael

Re: TAPLIN TWIN 7ccm
That's easy to calculate. You need a 7/8 x 3/8 x 7/32 bearing.

Re: TAPLIN TWIN 7ccm
Good day everybody,
The attached photos show the individual parts of the TAPLIN TWIN before processing and after processing. The ball bearings had to be replaced. I made new compression toggles and also had to replace some 6BA screws. The engine has good compression and the counter pistons work well. I have to say: a very good, precise construction of English engineering.
Best regards
Michael

Re: TAPLIN TWIN 7ccm
That looks great, Michael. How big is this engine dimension wise? I suppose the supporting bolt is an M5 or M6?

Re: TAPLIN TWIN 7ccm
Hello OVERLORD,
yes it is M5 thread, above you can see a TAIFUN Hurricane 1.5 cc. The TAPLIN TWIN is very compact for a 7 cc twin engine.
Best regards
Michael

Re: TAPLIN TWIN 7ccm
Hello Eric,
There are 3 ball bearings, 2 for the crankshaft and one bearing for the front shaft where the flywheel or, in the aircraft engine, the propeller sits.
Greetings
Michael
