Good day everybody,

Attached photos of a unique model boxer engine.

It was built according to the Scotch-Yoke Glow Twin Img_2024

with sliding guide principle.

The cylinders should be filled by milling out the connecting rods.

I restored the engine, it consists of two 2.5 cc Webra Glow cylinders,

The pistons are similar to Cox pistons without piston pins.

The engine ignites and starts briefly, but doesn't crank, I suspect the filling via the connecting rods isn't quite full.

I consider the engine to be a very interesting test engine, it dates from the early 1960s.

Maybe someone on the forum knows more about it.

Greetings

Michael

Wow, the Porsche Boxter it isn't, more like the VW Beetle but it is interesting in design. I wish I could help you out, maybe someone here can. I enjoy seeing these home-built engines.

Hello!

The transfer ports are obtained inside the connecting rod ?
Perhaps the problem is that during movement not enough secondary pressure is created inside the crankcase.
Or rather, the pressure does not change because the volume does not change.
Being a boxer configuration when one piston is at top dead center the other is at bottom dead center and vice versa.
This would explain why it crackles with a primer but doesn't self-sustain
It's an interesting solution for a 4-stroke and not for a 2-stroke ....

Bourke engine used the scotch yoke. Good animation of how in the link.
Oldsmobile made a few but never went to market.

Good morning,
Thank you very much for the interesting information.
I also see it as the cylinders not being filled enough for combustion.
This model engine was built in the early 1960s by a model maker from Mannheim. The technical execution is very well done. I'll take the liberty of judging that because I've built a lot of engines myself.
I'm trying to put up a video to show how the motor works when the motor is turned by hand.
Many greetings to all model engine lovers.
